Clauss for my Marines

Marines,

Recent posts and B/S/T activity have led me to believe that high up on most Marine's razor wish list is a Clauss procured by the MC during times gone by. I am on the hunt myself (after seeing a few of each of the two types I have a preference for the "newer" variant - see the attached pic for an example). However, being on AD does leave one somewhat cash strapped at times. That said, I recently came upon this at this joint. I have not contacted the vendor nor know if the vendor is reputable, however I did not want my hesitation at the (seemingly outrageous) price to prevent someone else from owning the razor if they can afford the price of admission. Good luck on this one... I will be breathing down your neck on the next one!

Semper Fi.

I just sold my Clauss USMC razor to Kevin on B/S/T, and $300 seems kind of high to me too, and not because I listed mine much lower ($220).

First, it sounds like the razor here is the more common one from WWI, and not the Spanish-American War model, which is what I sold. There's no indication that the razor here has been unhoned or unused, just that it is in "excellent" condition -- which could mean anything. Does it come with the original box? Who knows. In all, it's kind of a mystery. And if the razor isn't really in perfect shape, then the price should reflect that accordingly.

And I agree that the USMC blades are wanted by Marines everywhere, but without offending anyone, for $300 you should get a blade that is wanted by just about everyone, not just Marines. For example, for $300, you could probably buy a near-mint condition DD Lifetime or Filly EPBD or any one of five other really, really widely-desired razors. So yes, getting a Clauss USMC would make you the envy of any Marine (and rightly so), it just doesn't seem to be worth $300, at least for right now.

Looking over that site, there is a lot of stuff that does not make sense.
Namely the prices
The zippo with the USMC globe and anchor, was not ever issued as such (and only sells for 21 on zippo's site) http://www.zippocasemuseum.com/inde...ectoryid=-1&ctrl=productdetails&productid=408

As for the straight, the picture wont show up for me, and seriously, even if it was mint condition nos, in a sealed box, 300 bucks seems excessive.

All true, however I wanted to ensure that an astute negotiator would not miss out. And in all honesty, Marines regularly do things that seem off to everyone else - overpaying for a razor is not the worst offense that comes to mind. It's part of the charm of us loveable beasts!
