Classic Gillette commercials

Check out these classic ads from the early 50's. For you southern Californians and Dodger fans .... notice the legendary Vin Scully in the last video. This is great stuff here. Two of the greatest things on earth ... baseball and shaving! Ok, I don't know if they're the greatest things on earth - that might be stretching it a bit. But they are two things that definately make ME happy! Enjoy ..........

Hey, THOSE ARE GREAT! Those were the days when Gillette really knew how to make and market a REAL razor! Thanks for posting! Yeah, shaving and Baseball...........not necessarily in that order though!

Awesome, thanks for sharing these. :thumbup1:

So in a couple of those commercials they were talking about the three types of super speeds; light, regular and heavy. I know they're talking about the 50's flare tip, red tip, and blue tip, but which is which? I don't own a SS, well... not yet anyway

I believe the red tip was the most aggressive of the 3 ... the black was for average beards ... and the blue was the least aggressive - for lighter beards. At least that's how they were marketing them. I have a '53 SS - not a flare tip. So I've never tried the red/black/blue tips ... but there's a lot guys here that have tried all 3. I'm sure they will chime in!

The 40's style from 1947-late 1954 then the flare tip was introduced.Plain handle is the regular. Blue tip (light), red tip (heavy).I think the color codes came out around 1950 or 1951.Also the black tip is regular also.

You're right, I stand corrected. Still kind of a newbie in the DE world

The Red Tips is the heaviest in weight and the most aggressive.
The Standard or Silver (Nickel plate) Flare is medium in weight and medium in aggresiveness and thr Blue Tip is the lightest in weight and the mildest.
There is also a slight diffrence in the blade gap adding in the diffrent aggresion rates.

The Black Tip was not part of this series which was modeled after the 40's style SS and not a Flare.

That really reminded me of Cosby's "Little Tiny Hairs" stand-up routine.
You can hear it here, it starts in at about 5:20

Did anyone notice the error in the base ball commercials? In the third one, he's using a slim, but the case on the counter is the Fat Boy case like in the first commercial. In the last one, they do have a Slim case on the sink. Should I take noticing that as a sign my RAD is getting worse?

Your RAD may have become acute.
