Chesterfield Overcoat

Why are these so hard to find???

My ideal find would be grey herringbone 100% wool with the black velvet collar. Single breasted and about 3/4 length.

It doesn't seem like anyone makes these anymore. If you've seen one for sale, please share!

I remember seeing such coats over at http://www.ctshirts.co.uk/, they ship to US, too.

They're just switching seasons, however.

Look for covert coats.

The Chesterfield is similar to a Covert coat but they are not the same thing.
  • Covert coats are hunting coats and made from covert cloth, there is no defining Chesterfield cloth.
  • Traditionally, Covert coats are fawn colored (so horsehair isn't easily spotted); Chesterfields are either charcoal or black.
  • A Covert Coat will almost always be single breasted, a Chesterfield can be single or double.
  • Covert coats typically has three to five lines of stitching at the hem and cuffs, making it a bit more casual than the Chesterfield.

Thank you greenie. That looks like it has potential. I'll keep an eye on their fall/winter stock as it comes in. I found that Lord and Taylor has one on their site that is about as close as I could hope to get to what I'd like, but it isn't currently available in my size. The search continues...
