Cheap Splashes are for Real Men

I've been digging the blue CVS aftershave that I have heard from other members can be found at Dollar Tree stores for a cheaper price.

CVS, or Rite Aid for that matter, blue and green aftershaves are all in the $6 range around these parts. But of the ones I have (Vi-Jon?) they are all good and perfectly acceptable copies of the originals.

Florida Water is awesome. I have 4 bottles under my sink.

Nice! I wore it a few times already and really liked it...I'm still trying to figure out a rotation so I can cycle through all my stuff.

I jumped on the Old Spice Mondays and Clubman Fridays bandwagon.

Still can't get away from the Skin Bracer. It's so good on my skin. The Barbasol Pacific Rush and the AV are a close second.

I'm very impressed by the Barbasol! Gillette Cool Rush is another great all around performer as well. I find that the scent lasts for quite some time.

"The Rub" has to wait until next month.

I know that I have found Florida Water at a couple beauty supply store here in Dallas. I'm sure it's worth a shot to look there. I have not bought any yet so I cannot attest to what it smells like. I may pick some up now, too!
The best way I can describe it is spicey citrus. I get compliments when I wear it.

I just got some Florida Water and I like it. When I put it on, I can smell the citrus right up front. The citrus quickly falls into the background and is overtaken by the spiciness. The dominant spice I get is clove. I think the clove also provides kind of a numbing sensation. I got some of this stuff on my lips and they went kind of numb for a while. There might also be a bit of nutmeg and cinnamon scent there as well. If I had my druthers, I'd like a bit more of a citrus presence but it's a minor quibble. The scent is unique, masculine, and I like it.

They have the Barbasols at Dollar General if you live near one. Thanks for mentioning the Afta! I'm going to put that on my list.

Once I break in a few more bottles, I'll move on to the "online only" stuff that comes in the classy glass...

+1000 on the Afta!
You really need to grab a bottle of this. It's pretty much the only balm I use--the scent is kinda pine-ey and spicy.

EDIT: that's Afta original (I haven't tried the Fresh yet).

Ok, Afta is on the list next Osage Rub for September's haul. Thanks, bro!

AV Classic Ice Blue - The King of Aftershaves. It has a great clean scent and it really chills and soothes. It always feels like I just slapped some Barbicide on my face.

Skin Bracer, Brut and Clubman are nice too

Proud of you

Thanks my friend, but I went a little overboard with those. God knows how long all of these will last me plus I have a lot of other brands. The longer I'm here, the more aftershaves I learn about and I've (pretty much) put the brakes on for now.

I have both and the performances are identical. The only difference I perceive is the fragrance and that is pretty subtle.

The recent discussions on Afta and Skin Bracer prompted me to stop in at a WalMart when I was nearby. I know a lot of people like it but I couldn't see myself ever buying Skin Bracer. I don't know what it is, but there's some element in its scent that signals "cheap" to me. Not cheap as in affordable, but cheap in the sense that there's something lacking in the scent. I don't know why but it makes me think of someone's first foray into wearing scents in Junior High or High School. It's not for me.

Afta, on the other hand, is totally different for me. I bought the Afta "Fresh" scent. At only $2.12, this one's hard to beat. I really like the scent which is light, masculine and , as it is aptly named, fresh. I've only tested it on the back of my hand so far to check out the scent so I'm looking forward to using it "afta" a shave to see how it performs. I could easily see this stuff having a permanent place in my shaving lineup. At the rate I've been buying aftershaves lately, I better start applying them at least 3 times a day to use them up.

This is just a small part of my stash. Pick one.

Nice stash, cottontop!

mikelz777, I hear what you're saying about the SB because I used to hold the same school of thought on that and every other splash. Now, the Skin Bracer is one of my top go-to aftershaves. I really enjoy the scent. It just reminds me of something that I can't put my finger on.

The Afta may be replacing the Nivea balm that I use. It really moisturizes well and smells like the bottle says it would...Fresh!

Rest in Peace
You have to learn to put your finger over it. Once you figure that out, I don't spill it anymore.

I have a smaller bottle of the Ice Sport. It has a smaller hole, but still to big. I've thought about moving it to the larger bottle (they're the same size neck).
Great tip, thanks! I just got Aqua Velva ice blue locally. I saved my empty Proraso Green Splash glass bottle because it has a great plastic dispenser plug that's easily popped out to funnel in the aftershave of your choice. I'll try the finger over trick with AV first.

+1 on the"finger in the hole trick". Learned it here and works for me. I also have Skin Bracer and Afta. I like them both. As for inexpensive or "cheap" in some vocabularies, I'm thinking of adding Brut, but I want SWMBO :) to smell it first before it becomes part of my collection!

I'm pretty new to wet shaving, and just bought a double edged razor after going 30 years with the cartridge stuff. Anyway, I've been looking at all the cool stuff on the forum and found a bunch of Clubman fans. Gotta love a brand name like Clubman. The posts all talked about the old barbershop scent smell, how it reminded them of their youth and locker rooms and even the dudes that handle the restroom details in the old casinos (the attendants are pretty much gone, now, but occasionally you'll see them).
So, down to CVS for my first bottle of Clubman Classic. Wow! Love the stuff. After a good shave with a Merkur with some TOBS (so far, Mr. Taylor is my fav, along with Eton) and a splash or two of Clubman...I'm feeling solid and alive. Love seeing all the posts here of the 'classic' scents. And along with the high-end razors, blades, creams and brushes, there's something retro yet full circle about going back to the basic after shave lotions. Maybe, as she said in the James Bond movie, 'Sometimes the old ways are the best.'
