Can't decide between 2 Sandalwoods!

IMightBeWrong

Loves a smelly brush
If I get both my wife will kill me. Been spending too much on shaving stuff lately. I can't decide between the QCS Mysore Sandalwood "Croap" or the Mystic Waters of the same scent. Price is not the factor, staying out of trouble and getting a great soap is the important part. :)

Does anybody have experience with both? Can you compare the slickness, cushion, and fragrance of them? How quickly do they lather?

Thanks for reading!

My two cents...

QCS - easy to get a nice lather
MW - finicky, but will give a better/slicker lather if you can crack the code

Never used QCS. Mystic Waters=finicky...couldn't have said it better. C&E Sandalwood is an exceptional product if you want to consider it.

QCS is a fine product. The EO in it may be a bit intense so beware. The scent is marvelous.

MW left my den. It was too challenging to get consistent, quality lather.

MW's Mysore Sandalwood has a wonderful scent, yes it can be finicky and it does not like heat (if you use a scuttle). Sorry haven't tried QCS !

I too like the C&E Sandalwood. I love the scent of the TOBS Sandalwood. I tried the TOBS cream but it burned me.

I´ve tried both. Now, good scents are a subjective matter, but in my opinion they where both allright. Not up there with T&H, but still allright. As for quality, I find QCS to be much more consistent than MW, it lathers easily and creates a fine cushion. That said, MW gives a better glide.

Talking about scent; my favorite sandalwood soap has always been T&H. The worst is by far C&E. About a month ago I got a jar of Castle Forbes sandalwood, and this really blew my mind. I thought I knew what sandalwood smelled like, but I now realize that I didn´t. Castle Forbes has a pure natural sandalwood scent, and although it took me a couple of shaves, I´ve come to really enjoy it. It can´t be compared to any of the other sandalwood scents, which I still like, but it reigns in it´s own kingdom.

Get neither and go for either the GFT, TOBS or AOS varieties.

To my nose, CF has an overpowering cedar component.

Thoughnot as "pure" as Mysore, the AoS sandalwood is the one I find most pleasing.

Just to clarify: Even though many cosmetic companies use mysore as a cheap substitute in their sandalwood scented products, Castle Forbes use essential oils from the indian sandalwood tree (santalum album) and the eastern redcedar tree (juniperus virginiana) in their sandal/cedar product range. You get what you pay for, and this is one of the reasons that their products is in the top price range. The other reason is performance. I still haven't found anyone who can beat them.

That said; AOS is a great shaving soap, and the sandalwood smells fantastic (but it really doesn't smell sandalwood).
