Can you make a shave stick out of a melt-and-pour glycerine soap?

And if so, how?

Could I pour it into an underarm deodorant container (after disposing of the deodorant first and cleaning it)?

Thanks.

I've done the deodorant container thing, which works well *IF* you've plugged up all the holes in the base. Otherwise you get a lot of extremely hot soap pouring out the bottom all over your hands and sink.

FWIW, you can also make sticks out of harder soaps, including the tallow ones. I make sticks from Mitchell's Wool Fat by grating the puck into very fine shreds & packing tightly into one of Mama Bear's empty containers. I've also done it w/ L'Occitane soap.

This is exactly what I do. I've made shave sticks out of MWF, Penhaligons BB, Provence Sante, Institut Karite...etc. Just cut the (non glycerine) puck in half, grate it, and put it into the shave stick. I use these at home and IMHO it's the best way to use soap: not as messy as a bowl and eliminates the need for a "soap" brush (assuming you apply the shave stick directly to the stubble and face lather)

Sounds like a great idea and a good way to recycle. I read a post on this a while ago where someone decided to coat the inside of the form with some kind of oil before pouring the melted soap to make the stick easier to use. Apparently this was a big mistake, as the new shave stick absolutely refused to lather. Oops! I found it amusing.

Yeah, there is no need to coat the container walls with anything. Quite a while ago I made melt-and-pour shave stick out of an old deodorant stick, but I could not get the darn thing to twist up after the soap set. Sue, of Honeybee Spa soaps, gave a great tip to remedy this situation. Pop the shave stick in the freezer for ~15 minutes and then run the shave stick (with the cap on) under hot water for a minute or two ... this will un-stick the soap from the container "walls". I haven't had this problem with the empty shave stick tubes available from Mama Bear (the link that markb referenced).
