Bulldog razor question

How snug is the top cap supposed to be on a Bulldog razor?

That is, when you unscrew the bottom of a Bulldog razor should the top cap simply fall off or do you have to use the bottom to push/pop the top cap off?

Asking as I'm looking at a Bulldog and wondering if something is wrong with it as the cap stays on unless you push/pop it off with the bottom.

After I unscrew the bottom I just lift the cap off. The cap doesn't fall off unless you have the cap end pointing down.

You are talking about the Old Type three piece Bulldog, right? Not a one piece twist the bottom to open the silo/butterfly doors...? I've heard the one-piece razors with barber-pole handles called "bulldogs" - and these often need a push to open the top after twisting the handle....

thanks to Mr-Razor for these pics:

Yes, I'm talking about the Old Type 3 piece Bulldog.

Thanks for the replies. Guess there is something jamming up the Bulldog I'm looking at.

It's very possible it's just really dirty in there. The Old Types I've bought have almost all had a degree of crud inside the handles. I use Scrubbing Bubbles and Q Tips to clean inside the handle and cap retaining barrel nut, making lots of passes until a fresh swab comes out clean. On some razors it's taken as many as 20 Q Tips. Yours may even be worse, but that wouldn't stop me from buying it.
