Building boxes?

Box all finished.

Won't be doing one of these again.
Both beside each other.

SWMBO thought I was nuts. While shopping at a local Goodwill, I purchased a piece of furniture to harvest some of its parts. Not knowing what I am up to “How or you getting that home” see asks as a start to break in up in the parking lot. A few pieces went into the trunk, most went into the dumpster. One of the pieces that I took home is what I made this box out of. I sliced and diced a highly figured slab of walnut into all the parts. A big hunk of Butterscotch Novaculite needed a special hone and the wood delivered

naturally all the arks I have came with their own boxes.

the lovely Tomo Nagura Jnat i have didnt have a box. what to do?

I thought it only appropriate to purchase a bamboo and straw box for it. only fitting for such a nice stone (may be a value stone but i would not trade this one for anything.)

Beautiful stone.

I have a box I need to send you if I can find it. I made it for the Burton. Even has a photo copied label on the inside.

I like the box camo, but feels to me like it needs a fitted insert to hold the stone and tomo snug.

Tim, that box is gorgeous. Very true to the nicer vintage ones I've owned, and the color sets off that light butterscotch in the stone perfectly.

I have an 8x3 turkey I paid an arm and a leg for to import from an etsy seller in france who sells home decorations. Wedged into a huge block of walnut. Was sold as a table centerpiece, and I can see why, that old walnut is a stunning wood. Still waiting on when I can convince my wife it's suitable kitchen decor, but it'll be my countertop knife stone once I do.

Can't wait until my wife and I find just the right place for us long term, and I'll have a little corner I can start putting tools in. I really am eager to take up woodworking. Seems like a nice relaxing hobby, and once skilled, the results are so handsome.

I already repurposed the box. The stone that I made I for was evicted to make room for another, a 8” Pike that needed a uncommon label preserved. Found this stone after I made the box. Gave the box some finish before I mounted the label between two pieces of Lexan

Love it. Those old Pike translucents with that label are incredible stones and are pretty rare, especially in that size. I think QC was more strict back then on what went out the door. Most of those stones have the same look- sort of an off white, waxy look. Nice to know that one is preserved for the next couple hundred years. Nice work, Tim.

Thanks @David I can’t guarantee the next hundred years but it will have a good survival chances when I assume room temperature or pass it on to the next caretaker

I was trying to match the color of this beautiful LGB

Ok, so I've been drawing a box for a tricky stone and thaught that... perhaps all the cravings for something pretty and hardwood would be properly exchanged for something softer and more chock absorbent, like softwood, cedar or pine. Not as cool as teak or some burl or whatever, but more functional.
What do you say.
Any thaugts?
