What's new

brplatz's DE Journal

Afternoon ladies and gents, thought I may as well record my happenings in this new DE shaving world!

Anyway I have had my first 4 DE shaves go off relatively well. But nothing spectacular although, today has been my best shave so far!

The Goods:
  • EJ DE89l
  • C.O. Bigelow Shaving Cream
  • Astra Blade
  • Omega 49 Boar Brush
  • Kyle's face prep

#4 (9/17/13)

Started with a nice lather, a (best one yet considering the rock hardness of the water around here) and then applied it. After which I applied a hot towel for a few minutes, wiped off and relathered for a the shave. I did 1 WTG pass and 2 XTG passes. I find that doing this gives a DFS on everything but the neck, with no irritation. Although the neck is tough right now. If i go ATG i get razorburn. This could be technique or pressure.

Speaking of pressure, I really payed attention to having no pressure and good angle today, and now I understand, great feeling afterward.

Here are a few pics, yes I pick up a straight, from our fellow Buca here, and will be trying that later, probably when I get very comfortable with the DE

Hi Brian!

Welcome to B&B.

I'm not that far ahead of you, I started in early July.

I have come to use distilled water nuked for about 45 seconds. I soak my brush (and lately, my razor) in that. Works for me.

Enjoy your shaves! And folks around here are real friendly - any questions, someone will have the answer. Just ask!

Cheers

Welcome Brian,

He knows more than I, and strong armed me into starting my own journal!

Ha! He jests.

I like the idea of keeping a journal. It's a good way to look back on your progress, see what worked & what didn't work etc. If you look around, there's plenty of journals here - all different, all fascinating.

If it works for you, keep it up!

Even StubbleTrouble's is worth a look!

#5 (9/20/13)

Had a few days beard going, but I dont grow a super thick beard anyway. Had a great shave though! Really concentrated on a good lather and really applying it well. I think a good lather makes all the difference in irritation or lack thereof for me.

Also tried the straight! Just a small portion on the cheeks, but it went well and no blood, but my technique is nonexistent. But looking forward to trying that a bit more sometime.

Not sure what # Shave I am on as I have been quite busy with school lately, but still enjoying my shaves!

Today I decided to say screw it and popped in a Feather in to DE89L. I really concentrated on no pressure and good angles.

Outcome??? To be honest one of my best shaves I can remember DFS all around (which is a first, especially on my neck) and no nicks/weepers. Very little irritation.

One interesting side effect was after I rinsed off with cold water, my face tightened up quite a bit! Almost excessively. Little AS Balm and I was good, but that was new.
