Brooks Brothers 'Slim?' I think not.

Hey Gents,
Just a quick heads up if you are looking for fitted, or slim fit dress shirts. If you have an athletic build or, as the name qould suggest, slim, I suggest you look elsewhere. The fit of this shirt on me (5-8, 185, <10% body fat) was more akin to a boat sail!
I will note, however, that the shirt quality is top-notch and there is an Extra Slim Fit available, although it may not be enough to fit more slender builds.

This is why they have extra slim, for slim guys.

The regular shirts are for round guys;
Slim is for more athletic (broad shoulder, small waist)
Extra slim is for well...slim guys.

The slim shirts are perfect for me, 5'10 195lbs. 44 chest, 34 waist.

If you need slimmer, try Thomas Pink Slim Fit.

Here's a post I made on this very subject a while ago. As it earned me my custom title, I'll simply repeat it here:

They are great shirts, but remember that they are "slim" only in comparison to Brooks's regular fit shirt, which is cut for the, shall we say, ample gentleman. I'm 6'3" and about 240 pounds (and sadly, it ain't all muscle ) and their slim fit shirts actually fit me. I currently wear shirts with the 17.5" neck, and the guy at the store told me that the regular shirts with that neck size are cut for pretty enormous guys. I almost laughed in his face when he suggested the slim fit, but he was right. The ended up fitting me much better than the regular.

Yeah I have a couple and they're still big on me (6'0" 175#). Good enough for work shirts but not for being "dressy." Just ordered 3 custom white shirts from them (they had a deal where I basically got one for free). Two are bib front tux shirts (one wing collar, one tennis) and one regular dress shirt with a tennis collar. Needed the wing collar for my 30s wedding tux and the other two are for my other vintage tux and other vintage suits. Can't wait to get them.

I was looking around the brooks brothers outlet the other day and decided not to buy the slim ones. I went over to Calvin Klein instead and looked at their slim shirts. Much better fit but unfortunately not the same quality feel either.

This is good to know my dress shirts are huge on me. the billow out of my waist band and make me look sloppy unless I am wearing a waist coat(which is hardly ever)
6'ft 210lbs 48 chest 34 waist

Banana Republic has some nice slim fit shirts. I'm a 6'4" 180 lb cyclist with no upper body muscle for reference. I think even the Banana outlet has some slim fit's

+1000 to that. I'm on the heavier side -- 6'2" 250. Some of it is muscle. I wear a 18" to 18.5" neck (left over from wrestling) with a 36" sleeve but even with my almost 50" chest and 41" waist some of the regular shirts i try to buy are downright monstrous on me.

oh do I long for my wrestling days when I was 185 and ~11% body fat.

+1 on the neck difficulty. My ideal size is 16/33, chest 42" and waist 32"

It does seem like shirts these days are cut for larger and larger frames, when even someone moderately athletic can have a larger neck for their torso size. FWIW, I am a fan of Banana Republic's slim fit shirts, but only for work without a tie.... the right collar size for ties is cut too long in the sleeve for me.

I'm wearing one of those shirts right now!:thumbup1:
6'1" 185ish, 41-42" jacket, 33" waist, 16" neck.

I went on the Brooks Brothers website for the first time in a while, and it looks like they now have "traditional," "regular" and "slim" fit shirts. Is anyone familiar with this? I think I need to stop into a BB store and see what now corresponds to the "slim" shirts that fit me.
