Brass Tumbler Cleaner

I read an article where someone uses a vibrator tumbler to clean old dirty razors. The razors are first cleaned with soap and water as usual, then put in the tumbler with a medium of crushed pecan shells. After about four hours, the razors come out clean. Just disinfect them and they are ready to go. The tumbler is the same as those used by ammunition reloaders to clean empty brass cases prior to reloading. Has anyone else used this method? What were your results?

I've never tried it and I don't think I ever will. Cartridge cases are solid brass but most DE razors are either nickel or gold plated and I don't think it would be a good idea to use any sort of abrasive on them. I have heard of people using them to clean old straight razors and that makes sense since they are solid steel.

There are two alternatives: (that I have used)
1)Vibrating tumbler with crushed walnut shells, or corn husks.
Produces good results. Lots of dust and some residue from the nut shells. Takes longer
2)Rotating tumbler with stainless steel media.
Produces excellent results. Done in an hour
