Thanks, I appreciate the comments. The knot isn't glued yet and I'm unsure if I'll use this handle or one I made out of a piece of local Russian Olive.
Yep. I love Box Elder. In the Maple family, I believe. It's a soft hardwood, if that makes sense. I've burned tons of it, literally, for heat over the years. Kills me. And it stinks to high heaven when it burns!
I assume those lovely bugs live in Canada too?You are correct. In Canada it’s called Manitoba maple.

There goes my plans to move to Canada!I live in the Sonoran desert so I have no idea lol... I have 2 woodturning friends that live in Canada and one told me it was the same animal awhile back.
Can we see the Russian Olive ? Please .Thanks, I appreciate the comments. The knot isn't glued yet and I'm unsure if I'll use this handle or one I made out of a piece of local Russian Olive.
Hilarious. I will have to remember that one. Don't matter which party.Yep, I'll get a pic of it posted later today. The box elder bugs can be a PIA but don't really bother anyone. My Step Dad called them Democrats but I have no idea why.
