What's new

Bought a new grill today

New house, needed a new grill :)

seriously looked at buying a Big Green Egg but the $900 price kept steering me away. Went to Walmart today and was browsing when the manager came up and asked if I had mulled a tried and true Weber Kettle. Well, yeah I had and I've used them many times. She said she had a deal that couldn't be beat. Last years model needed out the door. I wheeled it up to check out and she rang it up $19.97.

$100 grill, $19.97 - looks like I'm a Weber guy after all :)

Dude.... I want one too.... talk about falling into that one.....

Almost as good as the Weber genesis I got a couple of years ago for free because the folks selling it could not be bothered with all the calls on their grill. They told me, be here in 15 minutes and you can have it.... I made it in 5 minutes :001_smile

That's an incredible stand Brian! Maybe someday I'll go the green egg route, but after today - I doubt it will be any time soon haha. I love those things and I have the cash but sheesh - $1000 for the grill, table, and my accessories I would like to have, hard pill to swallow on this cheapskate.

For my $20 today, I figure I can buy a nice pizza stone, racks for misc items, build an incredible table to house the Weber, and still have enough left over for about 100 bags of charcoal haha.

Nice deal. I've got the Weber in the rolling cart and, while nice, it was a heck of a lot more than I wanted to spend. I made the mistake of taking SWMBO with me.

Sweet deal. Might have given the manager a smooch for that kinda deal or at least a rack of ribs next time in:)
(Kidding about the smooch.)

When we bought our house one of my buddies had surprised my wife and I with a new grill. Not cheap either. I was blown away. We grill on that all year long. Rain, sun, wind, bah, grill time is anytime.

An alternative to the BGE is the kamodo joe. We bought on for my father in law and quality is as good as the BGE.

Got the classic Weber kettle as a wedding present 7 years ago, and that thing still goes strong. I wish I had the side-table with it for space, but a small plasic card table set up next to it can do the trick just as well I guess.

$image.jpgWe are building this to bouse the Kettle. That way when the kettle ultimately needs replaced, I can just swap it out with another kettle or a ceramic egg.

I have been through many Weber kettles in my life an love them all. Currently have the one with the cart, etc... Works great.

I will also be picking up a BGE sometime this year because I am obsessed with grilling but I will always have a Weber Kettle. They are great and solid performers.

To pick one up for $19.97 is unheard of. Good deal, sir!

Brilliant! I see another project in my near future...

No issues with the heat and the wood? Looks like the handles hold it up, right? Any other support or can the handles um, handle all the pressure? Does the actual kettle touch the wood or is there a gap between?

I'm not sure about this design, I was going to put a gasket around the edge of the wood and lift my kettle up a bit. I didn't care for how this kettle sank so low. I'm also bringing up the shelf for more ease my back and to put an ash bucket underneath for simple purpose to take it out and dump it. Lastly, I plan on shrinking the table to work with a 60 inch gas grill cover.

I have the Stok Tower pictured up there in Bruce Wayne's link. It was a nightmare to assemble (I actually had to "modify" the instructions), but now that it's together it's solid and grills really well!

I pulled home a Weber kettle that someone had left on the sidewalk around the corner from me. It seemed to still be in decent shape.

Eleven years later it is still making fine meals, with two more eaters of tasty grilled food having miraculously appeared at my house. I have used it in all four seasons through those years.

It could be its last year, though, as it is rusted through in some places. I might just have to buy the next one.
