boker japanese hone question

i purchased a boker japanese waterstone 1000 grit. idea was to use it to set bevels on a couple old razors i have. i use spydercos for my other honing and thought the medium (which from what i understand is approx 3000 grit) works but takes some time. the question--i have never used a waterstone before. after unpacking it i ran some water over it and it sucked up that water in no time. are you supposed to soak these stones until they are completely saturated with water, then apply more water as you use them? instructions are all in japanese. thanks!

you can try and soak for~ 10 min.

I concur. Nortons hones are water hones too and they say to soak for 10 mins.
