blade storage

Probably a typical newbie question, but what is the best way to store a blade after I have had a shave?
Do I clean and dry and leave in the razor?or take it out and store it somewhere else.Any input would be appreciated.Had my 1st shave with a 1979 Gillette Y-2 black handle using a derby blade.Didn't cut my throat!
Nice result.

I usually rinse off my razor, shake off any excess water and hang it on my razor/brush stand. Blades only last me 4 to 5 days and they won't deteriorate in that time.

First off, welcome to B&B. Glad your first shave went well.

I do what OldGrey does, but I rest my razor on its side on a washcloth so the blade doesnt touch.

This is a very debated topic. Many do what we do, others remove the blade and pat it dry on a towel, some dry it with a hairdryer.

With the only few times it is being used, I find it sufficient to rinse it well and flick off the excess water.

I've been taking the blade out of the razor (I favor Gillette Super Speeds, so that's a very simple operation) and flicking the water off it. I then stick it to a rare earth magnet I have embedded into my shaving shelf and it dries there while finish up the shave (alum, cleanup the razor, final rinse, clean the brush). Usually when I am done with the finishing routine the blade is dry and I put it back into its wrapper and make tear in it to indicate the shave just performed. I then stick the blade in the wrapper back onto the magnet where it awaits the next shave. This way I know how many shaves are on the blade when I pick it up and also allows me to clean the razor off after every shave. I have therefore very little soap scum build-up on my razor. If my shave needs to be cut short I will save time by leaving the blade in the razor that time. Really doesn't matter, I think and is really up to you.

Welcome to B&B!

Where I used to get 3 to 5 shaves from a blade, I now get anywhere between 10 to 15 comfortable shaves......don't ask me how, but I suspect my technique has improved over the years. I've seen no difference in taking the blade out and patting it dry vs rinsing the razor with warm water and then hanging it or laying it on its side.

I take the blade out of the razor onto a towel, then dab it dry. Then I will take the towell and wipe the razor to remove the excess water, then give it half a dozen shakes to remove the rest. Then the blade goes back into the razor until tomorrow.
I get about 5-7 shaves per razor blade, and it really doesn't matter if they are Derby, Astra, Shark, Merkur, Personna, Wilkinson or Precision.
