Blade safe made out of an old jar

Another thoughtful gift from my wife. It contains all but about a half dozen of the blades I've used since beginning to use DE razors (at the age of 58) last November.

That's a great jar, never seen one with a face!

Thanks. I never had either. Wife picked it up at a sale for $10 and thought that was probably a steal. But then she saw another one just like it for $10. So maybe it's not so rare.

She cut the slot in the top. I love it.

Nice looking jar. I've been using an old ice tea can that I've been using for the past 4 years.

I'd been using a coffee can. Moved the blades in it to the jar when I got it. Only blades I've used that aren't in it are the ones I disposed of while traveling.

Whoa! The problem is jars can break, either on the floor or in the trash truck. And then there is a frightening mess of blades putting folks at hazard.

Better, in my view is to put old blades in empty plastic containers that have a screw on cap, such as aspirin and medication containers. They offer much more security and do the job of disposal well.

Looks great. Do you have plans for the used blades -- once the jar is filled? Model airplane? Sculpture? Cool gift.

S'pose you're right. But I won't be putting the jar in the trash, and there are so many glass bottles, jars, etc. (including water glasses) on shelves and counters in this house already that another one in a closed cabinet in the master bathroom is hardly going to add to the existing hazard. Razor blades, of course, are especially dangerous when mis-handled, but they tend to lie flat when dropped on a tile floor and would probably be less apt to slice a foot if stepped on than the surrounding shards of glass produced by the jar along with all of the bottles in the cabinet if it happened to come off the wall. Chances are, I think, that we'd notice if that were to happen. Also, earthquakes aren't a common occurrence in KS. Tornados are another matter -- that could suck.

It's fitting to have the face on the jar because it pertains to shaving the face. It's a good solid way to dispose of the blades and keep them out of reach. This jar puts nobody in danger.

Terrific. And the jar's face looks BBS...

+1. Call it the BBS jar.
Why not line the jar with a thick plastic bag or a cloth bag, something with a vibrant color (red). If the jar does break at least the blades will be contained in bag and all you have to clean will be broken glass.
