Blade Bank Versus . ?

Still learning the DE side of wet shaving. At first I thought a blade bank was where you put the money you saved on cartridges.

I quickly found out that putting the blades in the back of the new blade pack was just a new way to throw used but still sharp blades all over your vanity drawer. You'd think that would be a lawsuit waiting for a place to happen these days.

I don't have a medicine cabinet, let alone a way to make a future remodeler run frantic to the emergency room. The bullion can bank did not speak to me. I settled on this as a method to throw my blades out: I peel off a piece of masking tape, place the blade on it, and fold the remainder over. Seems simple, safe, cheap (you ALWAYS have tape around). Anyone think this is a bad idea of some sort?

There are many ways to dispose of a blade. I recently purchased a vintage talcum powder tin for my used blades. It's cheap and decorative.

Metal spice tins are a good idea -- just recycle all the metal at once, that way. I actually spent $1.00 on an "official" blade bank last time I bought something from Em's. Sometimes I'll spend $1.00 to be mindless. . Metal. Safe. Recyclable.

I do see a risk. There still exist a chance that the tape could come off, or someone, forcing their hand into the trash could still cut them self. If not in your house, some where down the disposal line. A metal container of some type is still the safest option.

I just cut a slot into the lid of a plastic Noxema jar. I soaked the labels off so there's no mistakes about the contents. It sits on a closed cabinet shelf so it doesn't need to be pretty or eye catching though the solid blue looks just fine sitting there. I'm pretty sure it will last years before it is filled. For me, it would be much easier just to drop a blade in a slot than having to muck about with tape and using up tape I'd want for other uses. Plus, I think used blades inside a solid container is much safer than they would be wrapped in tape.

Toothpick

Needs milk and a bidet!
almost anything could work as a blade bank. i orded mine from westcostshaving for $1. i got 3 just so shipping wouldn't cost more than the banks. before that i used to save the paper wrapper from the blade and put the blade back in it when i was done and trash it.

Having 5 bathrooms in this house I have plenty of medicine cabinets with slots in the back to add blades to.

I'm liking this more and more. Wonder what the wife will think? Cover me boys...

you made one big mistake. you asked her. you should have gone ahead with the installation and asked for forgiveness later.

here is my current blade bank. it should last years before needing to empty. it's a Canada Post bank. i think the US and other countries have them too.
