I'm a little confused, lol. You mean that you sent some to other guys? Who's the "we" in we both have? You're still talking about the stuff from the quarry guy, right? Sucks that the reddish stuff isn't usable.

Yes, someone else got some samples as well. His red slate sounds like a total bust. The other materials seem to be a consistency issue with inclusions. Some exploratory lapping may be in order on his end to see if there is a better honing surface in there. Mottled performing the best for him so far bet black, Vermont black, mottled, and red.
