What's new

Black Beauty

I started out with a super speed, tech and the a New SC. This weekend I went shopping and found a black beauty W1. I got it all cleaned up and used it last night. I set it at 4,and began to shave did 3 passes and got a near BBS no irritation, no nicks or weepers. This thing shaves great. I will have to try setting 5 latter and see how that does.

You might try a three pass like this- 7, then 5 and finish with 3. I've done that with my Slim Adjustable (very similar to the BB) and got a great shave. You do have to be mindful and take your time with it dialed up on 7. I've also tried starting on 9, but didn't get a closer shave, just a bunch of weepers. I've even done a 5, 3 and 1. Not as close, but very comfortable.

Ron...don't you know they will revoke your membership if you start a thread like this, WITHOUT PICTURES???? :scared::scared::crying::crying: :001_tt2:

Would not want that to happen.

Very nice my friend. You've had some good outings at antique stores already. Now that the weather is cooler down here I really need to spend some Saturday's out at the antique stores and flea markets. I need my wife to feel good enough to ride with me, I hate to leave her home alone.

Also glad it shaves so well for you. Having an adjustable that shaves so well for you is a nice thing to have. You can dial up however much aggression you need or want. I haven't had as much luck with the adjustable razors. I have both a Fat Boy and a Slim, but have had limited success with the Fat Boy and the Slim has downright shown it's dislike for me. I feel guilty having them just sit in my bathroom, but I want to come back to them and see if I can get them to work. If I can, I would love to have a completely refinished birth year Slim to admire and use occasionally.

Congrats again on your find. Oh, and you really like that Stirling soap don't you? I need to give that a try one of these days.

Jeff I really like the long handle. I did see several GEMS and thought ai found a goowwill but it had the wrong cap on it.. I did pickup another Black Beauty but it was locked up got it for a dollar
and got a gillette knack. I have tried several soaps my technique is not all that great but I think the VDH boar brunch is just now getting broke in. My wife and me really like the Stiriling soaps the are really slick. And my face always feels really soft afterwards.

Glad you guys like the soap so much. The prices on his pucks are really reasonable. Tell me more about this Goodwill that wasn't a Goodwill? When I first found out about them, I though they all had the diamonds that went through the cap, but later found out that's not true. Lots of them just have a normal looking cap and hollow cavities in squares under the cap so the diamonds on the base plate don't hit the cap. Could it have been one of those?

Not that the Goodwill's are especially rare or valuable as they made millions of them, but they are nice shaving razors.

The base plate was on upside down so I tried to flip it over but the cap would not fit because of the diamonds. I looked at the other razors but none of them would fit either.

Love my Black Beauty - also have a slim & I was wondering, although they're both Gillette adjustables, does anyone else find the BB is considerably milder, so you have to dial up higher?

I tried the BB on 5 tonight. Was a little better than last night. Did feel the blade more. Did 3 passes but I tried something different. I normally shave at a steep angle but what Jeff posted in another thread in my trouble spot on the neck on the third pass I used the razor at a shallow angle. I think I like that better. But I do believe I get a better shave with the New SC.
