Bigelow and VDH

Got a tube of bigelow shaving cream at my local BBW and I just wanted to know if it is okay to mix it with VDH when I lather up or should I just use em one at a time?

NO! DON'T!!!

The resulting superlather you get may prevent you from pursuing the purchase of other more expensive "name brand" soaps and creams!

Don't cross the products!

Yes, Proraso and VDH make fantastic superlather. In fact, it is more or less my "go-to" lather.
BUT-- since it wasn't specified, make sure it is the glycerin VDH. Non-Glycerin soaps don't mix well with creams.

Despite their naming convention, all of the VDH soaps are effectively glycerin-based and should work well also.

Now fuelingthefires, I'm really happy for you, and imma let you finish, but Williams and Proraso is one of the best superlather combinations of all time! One of the best combos of all time!

*shrugs and walks away*

I used to think VDH was good because I can get a nice dense, thick lather out of it. But then I never got good shaves out of it, so now I think it sucks. I don't find it slick or protective. Proraso, on the other hand, I get my best shaves with. I've never used them both together, and I'm sure the Proraso would "rescue" the VDH, but I say why mix a great product with a mediocre product? Maybe you'll get a ton of nice thick lather but maybe it won't be as good as Proraso by itself. Everyone always says YMMV so give it a shot, but also try Proraso by itself and then just go with what you prefer!

Good point. It never came to me to try the cream on its own.

Yeah, guess I was just too focused on getting a bunch of lather and thinking of how to get it.
For tonight's shave, I do it at night, won't even try to do it in the morning, I'm barely functioning, I did the Bigelow on its own. Still working on my lathering technique, but man, guess I know why it's in a toothpaste container. My face felt like my mouth feels after a good brush. Nice and minty. I like the cooling effect of the stuff. I will put the VDH away for now and enjoy a nice minty fresh face. :biggrin1:

Glad you got a great shave with the Proraso, but don't put away the VDH, try it on it's own too, I like it, it's part of my rotation...
