What's new

Better than a Poke in the Eye with a Sharp Stick? Perhaps not

New scope time for the BAR. Really liked the looks of the recently released Redfield Revolution. Fair price, good reviews, made in USA...bought it.

Sighting time-

After mounting on the Browning, the Redfield was quite off...no worries, that's what "Zeroing a scope" is for. But....

Usually I can dial in a scope fairly quickly; not the case here. Took 18 rounds to get it right. Still not much of a problem except, this is chambered for a .300 Winchester Magnum. Yeah....

After leaving the range, my right shoulder felt like someone had worked out on it with a Fungo Bat. Yikes!!

I am no stranger to recoil. In fact 3" Magnum .12 gauge shells really don't affect me in a bad way. Actually 3-5 rounds through the BAR creates no problem, so I didn't think that many round in a fairly short time (about an hour) would create any concern...guess I was wrong.

Thank all that is good and righteous for NSAIDs!!!!

Were the adjustments on the Redfield wandering or something? I hate a scope that adjusts up or down different amounts each time you move the screws a click. Will drive you crazy.

Nah...you can't really bore-sight a BAR, so it can become more tedious than with a bolt rifle. It's set now (thankfully)

Yes you can.

From their website:

This is one of the simplest bore sighters you will ever use. Simply chamber the bore sight like a normal cartridge and a laser will shoot out of the barrel showing exactly where your rifle or shotgun is aiming. This will save time and ammunition as only a few shots will have to be fired for fine tuning.

Yes, I have seen those laser sighters. I guess what I meant was that you couldn't bore sight in the more traditional fashion. I have also noticed the laser sighters which are inserted into the muzzle. Probably more cost effective for me as my long gun collection includes .22, 5.56, .30 (.30-06, .30-30, .300), .45-70, and .12 ga.

There are a number of ways to accomplish this. Leupold makes a bore sighter that magnetically attaches to the muzzle, no caliber specific arbors to worry about. There are adjustable arbors made for Simmons and Bushnell bore sighters. There is the "2-shot" sighting in method, which requires that your gun is clamped down where it won't move. Fire a shot, assuming it lands on paper. Then adjust the cross hairs to where that first shot landed. Fire the second shot, should strike at or near the first shot, at least in theory. Repeat as needed.
