Best shave to date!

Last night I had my best shave since starting on my journey with DE. Tried a few new things last night that I think made all the difference. First, instead of doing my normal WTG then ATG shave which, on the ATG, usually leaves me with a few weapers, I put a XTG pass between the two and, lo and behold, no weapers anywhere and a DFS, almost BBS. I think going right into the ATG was too much as my beard probably wasn't reduced enough. Also, tried, for the first time, a Red Personna blade (received them with a razor I bought) instead of my usual Feather. Felt like it glided just as easily as the Feather and I got just as good of a shave but wasn't as aggressive if that makes sense. Although I'll have to try a Feather with my now three pass shave to acurately see if there is a difference, I think I may prefer the Personna. Overall, a great shave and great learning experience for me last night.

I have started to shave xtg after looking at the instruction sheet that came with one of my vintage gillettes. I find I can get a great shave with only 2 passes. I could only get similar results with 3 passes and touch ups by copying the method demonstrated by the mighty mantic on his brilliant you tube video..... A revelation!

great work... had one of those tonight myself. Best shave ever.

Having toiled with a cheap DE with merkur blades for a year, i bought a Merkur 1904 and some derby's and boy, what a shave.

I concur with the required XTG pass. I've been wetshaving for about 7 months now. When I shave WTG, XTG, ATG, I get amazing shaves. Even to this day, if I try to do a two pass WTG/ATG, my neck gets cut up and I always feel some microstubble on my neck.

That's exactly how my shaves were going. I'd get a decent shave but would be bleeding all over. It's amazing what a difference the XTG pass made.

For me, anyway, it's about reducing the beard.

I usually shave every 2 or 3 days WTG x2, XTG once, and ATG with some touch-ups. Mostly BBS every time.
