Beaten by my Vision 2000

Hello

Sorry, I posted this in Aftershaves by mistake.

After two weeks of hell I have finally given up with the Mighty Vision 2000
I just can't adapt to it. My face looks like I have been tortured.
Tonight I have returned to my 38c, and what a fantastic shave. No cuts no nicks, smooth all over even in the hard to get right places, finished off with a splash of Tabac after shave. Brilliant!
I am not at all sure about the vision 2000 for me personally. It's just too much of an animal to get to grips with.
For now it has gone back in the tin until I can think what to do with it.

Can any one recommend a good safety razor to complement my 38c, I thought the vision 2000 would be pretty good but as already said it's a bit of an animal.
I was looking at the Parker 98r, but this looks so similar to the 38c I might be wasting my time with it.

I have never tried the Vision, but I have and love a Merkur Futur. It is a different style of razor but I find that it does a great job and is a nice change from my Merkur 11C.

EJ or Muhle 89

+1

No den is complete without a Edwin Jagger DE89L, or a Muhle R89. Both of these razors have the same phenomenal head, so only the handle differs.

These are in my opinion the best razors on the market today, with no serious competition (especially not from Merkur considering the recent thread about the serious degrading of the plating over time).

Vision is a beast. I mostly use it when travelling, because I can adjust it to suit the water conditions. But I wouldn't advise anyone to get it, perhaps the old progress is better?

I feel the AD kicking in :biggrin1: +1 on the Progress. I've got it (no Vision though) and it's a nice 'cold' German tool. Does what you tell it.

I'm going to suggest a Gillette adjustable like the Slim.
It's a great shaver that suits any blade.
Much more forgiving than a Futur or Vision.
They can be found on the BST often.

Andy, in the two weeks did you try different blades in the Vision? If not, you may want to consider giving it another chance with a different blade.

+1 The Slim is hard to beat!

Hi
First of all many thanks for all the replys, the information here is great as usual.

I have only used the Vision with feather blades, this is the same blade as I use in my 38c. I do have some Merkur blades. These I dont think are as good as the feather.

Again many thanks for the replys.

+1 another vote her for the EJ89.

This is a really fantastic razor. It has cured my AD's before I even started. Apart from wanting to try a few old Gillettes so that I can join in the discussions about them and have a few for display I don't really feel the need for anything else right now.

It's so good that I just got my old man one and turned him back onto DE shaving after around 25 years of using disposables and cartridges.

I use feathers myself and dont really feel the need to try others, only tried the merkur blade that came with the razor and it was pretty poor, i binned it after only one shave and went straight back to the feathers.

Oh well, I have been and gone and done it.
I have just ordered an Edwin Jagger 89L and to tyr some Derby blades.
It is an interesting topic moving onto blades.
When my Merkur 38c arrived it came with a Merkur blade and I had a few really good shaves with it, no problem.
I also bought a pack and when I replaced the first "Trial" blade with one out of the pack it just wasn't the same. I just wondered if they put in a super sharp blade to get you going then put less sharp or ones that don't pass the Quality control as good into the packs.
Since I have been using feathers though these have been fantastic and last a good week.
I will be looking forward to trying out the deby's when they arrive later in the week.

Again thanks for all the advice.
