Bargain - Aussie Palmolive on clearance sale

I randomly walked into my local woollies during my lunch break and happened to walk past the shave section. They had the Aussie Palmolive shave stick on "Clearance sale" for $1.51 per 50 gram stick down from $1.89 per stick. These are tripple milled and HARD, so they last ages. In fact, i haven't managed to even get half way through one as yet.

I've never seen this on sale before, and wonder why they are clearing their stock. Do they plan on not selling it in future? I'm really liking this soap of late, either on it's own or paired with EU palmolive shave stick (for some reason I'm finding these make a great combo). So, partly because it was so cheap and partly because of worry about future availability I stocked up and bought nearly their entire stock. I got half a dozen sticks and left them with 1 remaining stick. $9 for enough lather to last nearly 10 years is not bad in my opinion, and for some reason I'm really liking the smell of this stick.

I still have 2 full sticks at home, plus 2 sticks of Arko and 15 EU palmolive sticks and I think I'm done for soap for quite a while now. :w00t:

Nice! in 2009, Coles had a 3 for 2 special, I bought a box so I'm good too! At $1.51 it's pretty good! They might be clearing the stock to put a new label on or they are simply clearing the stock. if somewhere else is doing the same type of special it would probably indicate if they are killing the product or not!

A box is a great idea. Now I'm wondering if 6 is enough but I know SWMBO will give me a hard time for buying 6 already!

I checked coles this morning and they had 2 full boxes on the shelf with no discount, so maybe just a 1-off sale from the store. If they look like killing the product I'll definitely stock up on a few more, at least then I'll have a good excuse! :biggrin1:

"LASTS for ages !!"...a true fact !...great lather, but the stick never whittles down, you can't get more shaves from any other stick I know of...

AMEN to that! A harder soap could not be found on the planet for sure. If I couldn't shave with it I'd almost believe it was made of stone.

The plot thickens. I don't believe Palmolive are killing the product (yet) but I do believe Woolies is no longer selling it. I have now visited 4 Woolies stores that I know sold it, and apart from the one clearing their stock it is no longer mentioned at all on their shelf. Coles still has it, for now, but I can see why Woolies decided not to sell it and don't think Coles will be far behind in either jacking up the price or removing it from the shelf. It's hardly a fast-moving sale item (Since it lasts so long the few that actualy use it don't have to re-purchase very often) and is so cheap to boot. Wollies is probably clearing space for another brand of canned goo or something they can make more money from.

I went back and bought the last remaining stick this morning.

thanks for the heads-up, I'll pop into my local store this morning and buy, buy buy.

I've warmed a stick in the microwave and mixed it with a stick of Arko which then got mashed into a bowl - works great and smells terrific!

and +1 on its endurance.

Lets see what it says in your local store. I have grated mine into a bowl and mashed it together after adding a little boiling water. I'll sprinkle a few drops of water on top whenever I think of it to keep it moist and softer, easier to load. To mix it with Palmolive Euro soap I just give a few swirls on the Euro palmolive and then finish loading on top of the Aussie palmolive. Works well enough, hadn't thought of mixing the two more permanently. I also tried the Arko - Aussie Palmolive combination and it did work well too, but for some reaon I think Arko just irritates my face. Diluting the Arko with the palmolive did seem to help reduce the irritation somewhat.

Went back into the same store during the week, shelf was empty with the discount price sticker still on it. I was expecting the sticker to be removed so the shelf would have no mention of the shave stick like all the other stores in my area. I went back today and was surprised to find one lonely stick sitting on the shelf. So I grabbed it to bring my total score to 8 sticks at $1.50 each.
