Bamboo Brush and Razor Stand Finished

I built this stand last month on the 28th, the story behind it is here with photos in case you missed it : http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthread.php/366250-New-Custom-Wood-Brush-and-Razor-Stand

The bamboo stock it is made out of had a high water content and I had to wait till 4 days ago to start the finishing process. I applied a stain I payed over $100 that I ordered specially made and used on my bedroom furniture I built to give it a rich cherry look. I varnished it in satin.

Overall I am happy with the design being my first stand but it could be nicer. It has given me a better artistic perspective on what I will do on the next stand. It will house 3 brushes and 3 razors. I would change the profiles next time and maybe incorporate ogee and classical profiles instead of just coves and a roundover. Maybe use sides sides instead of dowels. I am also inclining towards a design in which the razors are leaning and the brushes are hanging over them.

I get my ideas from my years of woodworking and the internet but the finished product will always have my personal touch. I hope someone here does not get upset I use part of a concept they posted..lol. I actually hope I inspire others with my ideas and work.

I plan on making the next stand once I collect 3 razors and 3 brushes. I am halfway there there now.

Very nice job. I will be making mine this weekend. I have the skills but not the right tools to do what you have done. So I'm a bit frustrated about that.
Would love to see what you do next.

Nice work! Might want to add a shallow drip dish just to be certain the drying brush doesn't ruin that nice finish.

Ty gentlemen. Good advise, I used Helmsman Spar Urathane for that reason but I definitely still have to keep an eye on it and might require maintenance coat sometime in future just like any front door does exposed to the elements.

I am inclining to incorporate a ceramic bottom for the 3 brushes and have the razors above them for that reason, your input is making a difference. The ceramic would be encased within the millwork. New ideas are flying in my head on how to incorporate it all together and I am liking it.

Ty. I know what you mean by having the right tools, makes it easier. Good luck with your project, I am sure it will still come out functional and nice.
