What's new

B&B's I Cycle, You Cycle, Let's Exchange Stories (aka B.I.C.Y.C.L.E.S.)

I recently decided to get back into biking.
Last weekend I bought an almost perfect '86 Schwinn Super Sport. It needs new tires and a bit of cleaning but I should be on the road in a week.
It will mostly be laps around the block until I get a bit more conditioning then I will gradually range farther out.
There are many excellent bike paths around my area and I am really looking forward to getting out on them.

A little poofier than I prefer

Sweet! That's my kind of bike! Those old American-made Schwinns are the bomb. Very high quality bikes. Glad to hear you're putting a classic back in action. Happy riding!

I didn’t really need it, but wanted it (50th bday gift to myself). Finally picked up a new bike this week. Rode to work (about 6 miles each way) two days. Hoping the smoke clears a little to really put some miles in this weekend

I was able to get out for a spin Sunday. 55 miles with just under 3600 feet of climbing. My lack of fitness held the bike back.

Beautiful bike! Happy Birthday to you!!! Is this your first bike with electronic shifting? I have only spoken to one friend who uses it and he loves it.

Thanks FL! It is my first electronic shifting bike. Only one real rode so far, but I do like it. Everyone I know that has done the upgrade doesn’t like going back to mechanical. I just hope I don’t forget to charge the batteries.

Batteries can last over a month with steady daily riding.

2 things I thought I would never do: toss the rim brakes and lose the mechanical shifting. Now love both discs and electric shifting. We ride in the hills a lot and discs make it so more comfortable and the wheels will last longer as well not being gouged by the pads rubbing grit on them.

Had some work first thing on Pine Island this morning…

Trip to Babcock Webb WMA today. Tomorrow is the start of a five day archery season, so the gravel was recently graded and gates were open. I take my mtb here, but the Roubaix would have fared well today. Thirty miles.

FL shaver these pics are great. Is that a top fuel you have?
Thanks! It’s a Fuel EX7 (aluminum; 130mm travel front and rear). I bought one after renting one in Moab, March 2019. I figured if it could handle Utah, it would work in Florida. Didn’t need any suspension here today. Not even the slightest washboard in the gravel. Front and rear locked out. This is a popular gravel bike spot.

We're headed down to Southern Utah early next month. I'm not very much into MTB but my partner loves it, and she has a top fuel. I'm sticking with my old Specialized marathon hardtail I converted to a 1x. As I got older I stopped doing the wild trails the way I used to and now just enjoy being out on a trail and looking around. I'm definitely a roady though.

We're headed to Zion and Bryce can anyone recommend some go to places to ride down there?

Haven't been there yet, but enjoy the trip!! Utah is amazing!

On one of our last rides in Moab, we came across an older guy, 70 or so, doing the same slickrock ride (Moab Brands, I think) as our group, on a bike with no suspension. He was telling us about the early days of riding out there, when nobody had suspension. You can handle plenty out there with a hardtail. My first MTB was a cheapo Motobecane HT400 that I convereted to a 1X hardtail. Handled everything I did locally. Before that I was on rigid hand me downs!

First real ride after our household got out of quarantine. City streets and bike paths with a lot of intersections, so not a training ride.

Should have detoured around the block at the end!

Took the mountain bike about a mile from home to do some cleanup of saplings on the berm which were hit with weed killer overspray by an overzealous county worker. Also loosely splinted a handful of more recently planted slash pines nearby. Must have lost five pounds of sweat in 3 hours. I am hopeful that a suburban singletrack will someday wind through these trees.

Opening day at the local MTB park! It took many volunteer hours over the last couple of weekends, plus other weekdays, to trim Brazilian Peppers, raise low lying wet areas, whack Guinea grass, reshape berms, fix eroded single track on hills, replace sand with clay, and make the trails safe and ridable after rainy season. Beautiful morning to get back out there!

The slash pines (100!) were planted in July. They have all survived. The Guinea grass, which was killed prior to the tree planting, grows incredibly quickly. The black panthers give you a start as you corner! Someone claims to have recently seen a Florida panther here. Hope I see him before he sees me!
