Aussie Palmolive

Here are a couple pics of Aussie Palmolive. It shaves well and leaves the face well conditioned. Perhaps a bit oily for the tropics but I've used it a month or so with no complaints.

I bought it at the Woolworth's annex, quite economical, with a decent soapy smell.

The only drawback is there is no holder for it. It's a bit messy because of that. I made one out of a bit of tubing material we had at the shop.

Cheers

This page contains a lot of info regarding that stick: http://wiki.badgerandblade.com/Palmolive_OZ_Shaving_Stick

IMO, it's a good stick even if it doesn't have tallow. It's not the best out there but serviceable. If you can get over the scent it's a neat product to enjoy. I have a reserve here as I am, often, missing Australia. That's one thing that helps me remember the place.

Coles had a promo a few years back where it was 3 sticks for the price of 2 so I bought a lot of them!

Ah, yep.... there ya go.
Seemed interesting to find it at the local 7-11ish place. Like most I prefer the Euro version but when in Rome, it's quite serviceable.

Mate! I just luuuuuve the Aussie Palmolive. Here is the trick, mash it in a bowl and use it like a soap. The real trick is to load the brush heavily with the soap and magic happens. Clean, fresh, thick, rich lather.

Love the stuff.

I am currently finishing what is left of this stick that Luc gave me. Thanks again! I too find this serviceable, the scent is nicer to my nose than the euro palmolive but although it lathers well it somehow lacks the richness of lather I get from euro palmolive. For me the ideal low budget shaving stick would thus be the euro palmolive stick with the aussie palmolive scent.

If it was readily available here I might learn to love it too.
Some people love a soapy scent. Some like a rich slick lather.

I would guess a lot has to do with requirements. I don't think I would recommend Aussie Palmolive for a straight razor shaver. Works fine with my Merkur 180. At home with my Muhle R41; I like the Euro Palmolive, or La Toja (nice scent IMO). Tabac doesn't seem to get wet enough for me, smells nice; same with DR Harris and TOB.

I've yet to try Arco... a little afraid, some are disgusted about the scent. If it were at the local 7-11 I'd give it a go. Who knows it may be shaving Nirvana I've been looking for. I'd like a soap that smells like Armani Mania, slick as axle grease, holds water for days, leaves my face feeling conditioned, loads the brush for all three passes and costs $1. :wink2: Still looking.

Aussie Palmolive... smells ok, like soap; decently slick, I've used better and worse; holds water well, better that Tabac or Cade; loads the brush very well, a little thin on the third/touch up pass with one loading; inexpensive; found at the corner store... when I was passing through, which I do often. I love it enough that it's my #1 when at work but I don't have a dozen different soaps to choose from either.

If rating crap, good, better, best, OMG. I'd give it somewhere between better and best. I haven't found OMG yet.

That's my $1.5 worth. $.02 would be less words. :blushing:

Cheers,
John

You could always superlather it with the Euro palmolive (1/2 Euro and 1/2 Aussie) which might give you the best of both worlds... I don't think it's the best stick in the world but it's quite good considering the price!

That is a very good idea, why did I not think of that!

back at work and using the Aussie Palmolive again. I cant seem to get it to lather worth a dang. I'm guessing it must have dried out some what. I managed a decent shave with it today after soaking it for a bit in water.
(sigh) It worked for the first pass but didn't hold up for the next. I guess the next time I'll soak it between passes too, or deem it too much bother on go back to the Colonel puck.

Well, Aussie Palmolive is one of the ten or so different shave sticks I own. With all of them I rub them on my wetted face, and face lather with a brush.

I always get more nicks when I use it compared to the other shave sticks. Maybe with more work (and more soap as suggested above) it can be made to work, but I am not a fan at the moment.

Renato
