What's new

Are there many razors left?

There always seems to be a lot of nos de's around for sale, how long do you reckon it will be before they all dissapear, vintage shaving gear is now very popular around the globe, and there can only be so much nos left to sell on, is there still a huge un tapped sourse of unused de's hanging about, or is the stockpile getting low? it suprises me how much of this stuff is actually about, everyday e bay seems to produce un used razors for sale!

That might take a while; once every guy shaved with DE's and now we are just with a handfull. Besides, the demand is all about vintage Gillettes while there are tons of other DE's around. Most European brands are hardly looked after so there are still lots of interesting finds to make at low cost.

I wouldn't say there are alot of unused 50 year old Gillettes around - most of the good ones on B&B and the Bay are used but freshened up - think about it - to be unused after 50 years it had to be in adrawer hidden away - you won't find many Beetles with original engines either .

The X-Files fan in me firmly believes that somewhere, probably in a remote, Midwest location, there is large, old warehouse, or abandoned missile silo, crammed full of NOS Super Speeds and Fat Boys being kept from the shaving public.

Or maybe not.

Gillette made razors by the millions each year. We are but a group of perhaps 50,000 or so who even care. The supply will last.

I would think people wouldn't shave with NOS razors anymore, especially since most user grade vintage razors are cheaper than a new cartridge razor.

I often wonder the same thing about Old Spice soap, though. It's odd that a beloved, consumable product would still be floating around, and could often be found for bargain prices eighteen years later.
