Are there 80s Gillettes?

Is there such thing as a 1982 Superspeed? With all the people wanting/getting their birth year in the 60s and 70s, I figured I'd ask. Seems like a cool thing to have. Thanks!

Chris

PS, if somebody actually has one, I'd be willing to trade/pay/trade & pay for it!

I've tried to find one for my son, he was born in 1982, but since I've been here I've only seen one that I can recall and that was a Super Adjustable that sold recently. My guess is that by the early 80's Gillette was busy producing the various cartridge systems and disposables and were winding down production of the "obsolete" double edge razors.

I just did a search of the B/S/T and there are not many 80's models sold.

I recently picked up my birth year (alas not the right quarter!) razor black super adjustable and luckily they don't command the same dollars that an FB or Slim does...

Throw up an WTB thread and you might be surprised.. !

Not looking for an 80s one, although I did break down in late January and buy one of those 1991 G1000s that an eBay seller has as NOS.

I've wondered about the late model DEs, though. I have noticed that there are very few advertised as 1980s models on eBay. Gillette must have been de-emphazing those in the final years, as they pushed their cartridge systems. Are the 80s models harder to find because they were produced in smaller numbers, or were collectors buying them up even then, knowing they'd soon be gone. Any opinions?

[EDIT] WhoRU, date code list in the wiki.

Almost certainly it was diminishing production. Remember, back then they were just junky old razors being made obsolete by the cartridge gizmos that started in '72.

Back then there was no internet, so there wasn't a way to organize or alert dedicated DE shavers that the end of production was coming...hoarding seems to be extremely unlikely.

Thanks!! I some how missed that while looking through there.

Mines an M2, so 1967 2nd quarter. Sorry, too early for ya. :/

I don't see any 80s specific listed in the Wiki....miss something?

The columns for the black-handle super speed and black-handle adjustable go down into the 80s (A-G).

Take those columns with a pinch of salt, though. For example, there's no sign of the Tech after 1945, but http://wiki.badgerandblade.com/index.php/Tech shows that the Tech was made until 1973 (and I have an N). So the whole Super Speed column should really bump over to the right to make room for more Techs, but the wiki formatting for tables is so ugly that I don't have enough motivation to fix this particular problem. I'm sure it isn't the only oversight, either.

[ Edit: who am I kidding? It's a little better now. ]

I've been looking for one from 1985 myself. It seems like my birthyear is the very last year the superspeeds and super adjustables were made in.

No dice alex. the ebayer says he doesn't have the date. It doesn't say on the box. I guess it would be a crap shoot buying it and hoping it had the correct date code under the head.

I've got a black adjustable Date code C3 (IIRC, that should be 3rd quarter 1982) that I'm not really using anymore. PM me if you want it.
