Apply gel on top of shaving oil?

I saw a recommendation to preapre for a shave by washing, applying shaving oil and then applying shaving gel on top.

Can this be right?

Surely the alkaline pH of the gel would remove the oil?

I wonder if some of the oil might soak into the skin and stubble before getting neutralised by the gel.

Does anyone use this method of preparation?

Any view are welcomed.

when necessary I use pre-shave oil and then apply foam, gel, lather etc. I find that it doesn't get neutralised and the sensation on the skin while shaving is different when only using the lather or oil on their own. I typically do this when I breakout with blemishes or my skin is particularly irritated. It helps for me but as I say, you have to know your skin, to know if this would help.

I use La Tourangelle roasted walnut oil as a shaving oil with Van Der Hagen Shave Butter over it. If I’m just going to clean up my neck on non-shaving days I’ll use Cremo shave cream (in the tube) over the oil. (just to finish up the tube)

I can feel more irritation and after-burn without the oil.
