Anything I should know abobut using an adjustable?

First off I've determined something in my short time here so far....YOU GUYS ARE A BAD INFLUENCE!!! And the B/S/T area is the devil I think. Originally I figured a razor, a brush, and some soap is all I'm getting when I went to wet shaving. I have 3 different soaps/creams now. I bought another brush, and I've recently bought and am awaiting 2 Gillette adjustables, a slim and a fatty. I've read good about both on here and I had the opportunity to pick up both in one shot.

Here's the thing, I've never used an adjustable. So here is where I need you guys.... Is there a general method for using these? Is it best to start at a certain number and move up or do you start aggressive for reduction and lessen it as you do the fine detail work? Is there a general setting that is usually the most common when using it? All I've used so far for shaving is my Merkur Classic (33C).

Also how does one go about keeping it clean between shaves? As it stands right now with my current razor no matter how well I rinse it shaving I always get a little white soap film on it. My routine is after I'm done I rinse and then rub (buff) everything down with the towel. But my concern is with the mechanical aspect of the adjustable. I'm not easily going to be able to break it down and get into all the little nooks and crannies so to speak of the head. So how would I go about keeping it all squeaky clean all the time? I don't want residue whether it's soap or calcium for my water building up on the razors. So any help is much appreciated.

You maintain them just like any other razor . A toothbrush helps. Start at the lightest setting and go up from there as needed. Everybody needs a different setting and each blade type also has its preferences. You'll be spoiled now. a small spray bottle with alcohol to spritz it doesn't hurt either.

Since you already have some double edge experience you can probably start the Slim on 4 or 5 and the Fatboy on 2 or 3.
