What's new

Anyone else like German Pitralon?

My wife hates the stuff, but she's away for the week so I'm going to use it every day.
I've loved the stuff every since I first bought one in a Schlecker store in Germany. But it rarely gets used because of the dear ones protestations. Oh well. I'll enjoy it while I can.

Great stuff! Strangely, my latest bottle was purchased in Germany but looks to be made in Holland. It's still a favorite of mine.

Here's a pic of the newest bottle from one of my SOTD last month:

How does it compare to the Czech version?

I haven't tried the Czech, Swiss, or Austrian versions, they're so hard to get here in the US. So I can't say, but I hear they are quite different.

The German formula changed slightly about four years ago when Sara Lee took out the Mexican juniper oil. It's still got a lot of woody scent (cedar?) and is now labeled by Labori International BV in Breda and not made in Cologne by Sara Lee as it was last year.

ShoeBoxShave has it as well as Olimon, but I'm in Canada and getting it up to me would be a killer.

Right. Although I'm more interested in the Austrian and Swiss. One of the funniest aftershave posts ever about the Czech Pitralon (supposedly kinda ugly) from this 2009 thread.

The Czech Pitralon is indeed nasty stuff. A local supermarket had it on sale for 10 Czech crowns, which is so laughably cheap I couldn't resist. Well, I slapped on a few drops and it put my nose in a permanent state of recoil, gave my wife an urge to slap me, and made my eight-month old daughter cry. Needless to say it went into the recycling bin, contents and all (I was afraid of what the vile stuff would do to the plumbing) - all of this within ten minutes of my bringing it home.

Funny stuff in that thread. I got to try some in the last Canadian travelling box (along with the Olimon) and thought both were great. SWMBO concurred.
I guess this is a YMMV thingy once again :tongue_sm
