What's new

Any info on this older Kent Boar (T9)

Guys I'm stoked with this little E-bay (only me as a bidder) purchase I made last week. It arrived today and was described as a "new or not known to have been used, Kent Bristle brush". I thought as I was after one more boar for the stable (I only have two) why not have a punt, so for the price of a super cheap Omega she arrived. Specs are 26/55 and it appears unused. The handle is heavy and a translucent horn , not like my current H8 brush more real horn looking. The case is in very good condition with almost no marks. Now I've seen the 'T' series brushes befor but never in a boar. Has anyone any info befor I shot an E-mail off to Kent? If the bristles fall out like my other Kent boar I'll go for a re-knott in a two band I think, but fingers crossed it'll be ok. :biggrin1:

Cheers for that jaxjim.

I'm afraid the Kent has gotten a little bigger now since I used my calipers and not a ruhle to measure the knot. It's infact 28/55 in the knot department. It's an absolute beast with creams and soap. Sorry to say my other three boars (B&B essential, Omega 100777 & an Omega #34) have just not come out of the den, neither have my badgers. The one thing I've noticed with this Kent and the other I had is there's a musty smell when wet or dry and that the bristle seems thicker than my other boars. That smell is starting to lessen and the brush is taking on the scent of my creams and soaps. Paired with the Cobra SE Razor and some Tabac a BBS has been has since it arrived. Its a keeper :biggrin1:

According to Kent it's around ten years old and was a 'special' order. As it was unsused I'm wondering wether it was a retirment present.

You very well may be on to something there, Stu. I've been surprised by the number of vintage brushes-- some dating back to the 1950s by my estimation-- I've acquired that appeared never to have been used. I, too, wonder if such brushes might have been gifts that were stowed away and not used. That certainly happened in the case of, for example, Old Spice gift sets that were marketed in the 1950s and 1960s for Father's Day and Christmas, if the numbers of them to be found listed on eBay is any indication.

That's a really interesting history regarding the T9. I'm waiting and hoping that Kent will get to me with some info regarding my C8 that I recently acquired on the 'bay' as well. From just scouring the internet my handle appears to be celluloid which was some material popular in the 1910-40's (so I read) but Kent has to look into the archives to see where and when it was made and what it is exactly.

Stu, did you manage to find out if the handle is real horn or a denser horn like material?

but I've only started looking into shaving brushes (almost like a mad man lol) and I'm amazed in general with the quantity vintage out there coupled with being new as well.

great looking brush, I think i saw that when I found mine.. hope you get great use out of it
