What's new

Another "Is it me or the Speick" thread

Well, after a month since my first shave with the Speick Stick, I thought I would give it another try. My face burned for several hours the first time and I am "feeling the burn" again.

My alum block rub almost had the stick flying into the trash receptacle. I ran from my planned Cool Wave with alcohol after shave, fearing my wimpering and tears would wake the still sleeping SWMBO and daughters.

On the last Speick thread, someone suggested that it's a harder soap so I dipped the end in warm water for 10 or so seconds. I did get a nice lather, a lot better then the first time.... but the burn. Ouch.

I milled mine into a container and lather on top with a shaken out, but not squeezed, brush. I get the awesome lather using it this way.

Speick isn't one I've heard of many having skin reactions to, but it does sound like that's what's happening.

I didn't experience burning like you unfortunately are, but in general I found the Speick soap to be so-so, at best.

Bummer, sounds like you can't use it. Wonderful soap really but not worth the burning. Lots of great soaps in the sea.

I also felt a slight irritation after using a Speick shave stick. I gave it away after that one use. There's obviously something in there that my skin doesn't like.

I didn't get along well with Speick. Couldn't stand the smell and it gave me an instant headache. The lather was only so so. 86'd it.

It does sound like it is a skin reaction. Too bad, I think the stuff is awesome.
Used it today, with the aftershave. Both are top notch in my book.

I would have to agree that it sounds like an allergic reaction to something in the soap.

If you are a glutton, or simply willing to verify for the sake of knowledge, then perhaps you could try a little bit on some generally sensitive area that you are not going to follow with shaving like the underside of your forearm (the generally non harry side) create a small amount of lather there and let it sit for a few minutes (to simulate the average length of time you shave) then completely rinse it off. For the sake of proper controls, do the exact same thing to the other arm with a soap/cream that you know does not bother you. When done, if you do not have a noticeable reaction, follow up with some alcohol or alcohol based after shave to make sure.

It is possible that you are shaving differently due to the different performance of this soap, and therefore blaming the soap, this test, if you are willing to accept it, will let you know with some certainty.

(.......As always if you should be captured or killed, the secretary will disavow any knowledge of your actions........ This tape will self destruct in ten seconds.....)

YMMV

Tried the Speick Stick for the first time today after a generous B&B member threw one in a razor purchase from the B/S/T forum.

Absolutely. Loved. It.

I have pretty sensitive skin but had no problems with this one.

Easy to lather up, slick lather, 3 passes worth of lather from one rub of the stick. Also loved the scent.

Admittedly I'm a newb to the DE shaving game, but I loved the Speick Stick much more than Proraso (the only two I've tried at this point).
