What's new

And the 1-5 Bottom Dial sells for BIN price.

The sales price does not surprise me at all. Someone wants a limited quantity item bad enough, they will usually pay top dollar whether others think it is worth it or not.

I was amazed the seller bought it for $300.00 and it's still in his feedback history.

Miles and miles out of my league.

Actually it looks like like a sale.....I had not seen that. Wonder if the deal fell apart after premature feedback or what?
Anything is possible, but I doubt that he had two of them laying around.

Never mind, just having a senior moment here. Reread his feedback and the entry in question is about a Toggle...:blushing:

......picks up bottle to double check dosage info.......

I agree with copier guy, if a botton dial is considered a Prototype a 1-5 Bottom Dial would be it. Weird how they are kind of lighter the the Regular FatBoy or Red Dot.

Congrats to the Buyer and Seller. At that Price Hope he plans to keep it in his collection for. Very long time in his cillection at that price )

The weight difference can be attributed to the medal used for some of the handle components. If you look at the handle between the dial and the head, you may notice a lighter shade. That part is aluminum as is the locking nut in the end of the handle and maybe the TTO knob. This nut appears to have been machined to shape then threaded. With a loop circular mill marks can be observed.

Still, I wonder about the wisdom of hitting the B-I-N button (at $1800) instead of just sniping at it when the auction closed, for say $1600 or $1700.

I guess if you're spending that much on a razor, you probably don't care that much about the extra three bills, but that would buy a lot of blades and aftershave to go with the bottom dial. Pretty low risk strategy too, but maybe I'm wrong. Was there anyone else out there getting ready to pull the trigger on this razor? Just wondering.

These are so rarely seen I imagine the buyer was not willing to risk missing a chance at having one.

If i had the cash and was in the market for one of these i would have BIN, i know what its like losing out to a regular item on the bay at the last minute.

I saw a bottom dial 1-9 sell last week too for around $1,200. I was showing my grandmother some of my older gillette's last week when she was visiting and she said in response to looking at the fatboy, "grandpa had a couple like this but the dial was at the bottom." Yeah, she tossed it years ago :scared:

I had acquired a 9Setting Gillette Bottom Dial with matching case at alot less than that 5setting BD was goin for just three weeks prior. Not many folks saw that one cuz it was only on the bay 20minutes before I 'bought it now'. Then the 5 showes up, made me sick for almost thee days, til I figured since I had 'equity' in the 9, the 5setting wouldn't really be that much, so I snagged it. I love how a sick mind rationalizes! That nite I slept totally better than the previous two! I just gotta put a note with them 'If I die these are not yardsale Items!'
