Airplane Travel & Blades

Wanted to know what the latest is on traveling with DE blades?
I am assuming they are a no no, but where do I find out definite info.
Is not airline dependent, right?

Also, if you do not plan on checking any baggage in, you could always mail the blades ahead to the hotel you will be staying at. Several members here do that.

Defintely no blades allowed to carry on. Razor blades have not been allowed for quit some time. I always bring electric with me when I travel.

Just went through LAX (one-way flight btw) and it took some time since the X-ray technician did not know what she was looking at, she had to call another male TSA technician over. They had to open my bag and inspect the razor to know that it did not contain a blade (which it didn't). After the inspection they placed the bag through the X-ray machine again, I guess to double check. Luckily there was no wait for security so I still went through fast, but if this is what happens I might just take a cartridge razor.

+1. That's what I do. It arrives at your hotel when you check in. :closedeye And you don't have to worry about searching for a place that sell blades or use the dreaded multi-blade razors.

After reading the tip here, I've taken to putting the open/disassembled DE in the tray with my keys and change at airports. Works like a charm every time.

I usually check my bag. If not, I take my fusion power with cartidges. I still take my brush and Irish Moos stick regardless. I've thought about mailing my blades to the hotel. I think I'll give that a shot, but still take my fusion just in case.

I had the same experience with TSA as crugg. I always bring mine as a carry on, as mine is a gillette adjustable with sentimental value, as it was my grandpas. The person scanning was a young guy, and had no idea what it was. An older guy comes and looks at it, takes it out and checks for a blade, and then lets me go through. If you are checking a bag, that is fine, if not, either buy blades when you get there, or mail them ahead of time.

Sad how I never think of the easy way out of anything... I've been going to Walmart and buying a pack of unfamiliar blades, and winding up with as much irritation as if I had just brought a Fusion with me. Never once thought to mail a blade or two. What a marvelously simple idea! I'm dropping an envelope with a blade in the mail for Raleigh this morning! Thanks!

I rarely travel for more than two nights, so I hate to check a bag. But when away from the family and sleeping in a crappy bed, it's great to be able to wake up in the morning and go through the ritual.

Well, as it happens after much decision and preparation -- I FORGOT MY RAZOR AT HOME. My shock was not relieved knowing there was not a store nearby to buy a decent disposable razor. Had to buy a pair of disposable from the hotel store. Worst $3 pair of razor I have ever used.

Now I am back home, and will look into getting BIC Metal single edge disposable razor. Great for traveling if you can find them. Single edge means it can be cleaned better if you are stuck in a low flow water hotel. Small enough to fit anywhere and hey they are disposable. So should be TSA approved.

It's so much easier if you pack it all in your checked bag and go without a carryon. Oh and pack a razor and brush you don't mind losing because TSA sometimes forgets to repack your dopp kit when they ransack your bags.

Well if I could not take a saber with me, I would definitely take a cattle prod to make my boarding and deboarding go smoother (for me that is).:lol:

That's what I do if I am not checking my bags. One word of caution, tape them to a business card (if they are loose) so they don't tear a hole in the envelope.
