What's new

A Shark bit me!

So I used a shark blade today; one of those chrome ones. I really like this blade, better than my Derby's I think (more shaves will tell). But, wow, I cut myself good right under my chin! I've got a bunch of blades to try but I think these may actually be my new go to (which means I'll need to get rid of my Derby's). We'll see.

I don't like derbys much either, but they may be good to keep around just in case you get a more aggressive razor later. A more aggressive razor may make a BIG difference with what blade you want to use with it.

Only tried sharks once in my very early days and got a rough shave. I'm a few months on now and they are due another try.
Tried my 2nd Derby earlier this week. 1st shave was good but the 2nd was nowhere near as good. It's as though it just took 1 shave to blunt it.

Certainly smething to think about. I don't like derby in my EJ but doing the shark week this week and using the SC in my R41 has been a little bit of a bloodbath. Just completing my 2nd month and I've barely nicked myself in the previous 3 weeks but this week hasn't been good and yet in the EJ the Shark is perfect, smooth and I get a close shave.

On the flip side I enjoy milder blades in the R41 as I get a close shave without the blood.

Had a bit of lesson taught me this week.

The stainless steel shark blades are amongst my favourite the chrome ones are the worst blades I've ever used. Anyone tell me what the main differences could be and why they would affect things?

I was sent some of those versions of the Shark blades, too. Will have to try them when this blade is finished.

Derbys were a bloodbath for me in two different razors.
Astra-SP was night and day better, and Gillette 7:00 Yellow still better.
I have Sharks in my sampler, but never loaded one due to some comments here that they could be a bit rough.

For me the Shark SS is my go to blade. So much so I'm only 20 packs away from ordering another 500blades.

I use Sharks as my go to (along with Astra SP). I have both the chrome and stainless varieties, and for my face the chrome performs a bit better. Derby's aren't as bad as people make them out to be imo, but Sharks are a step up.

For me there is a huge difference between the Super Chrome and the Super Stainless. The Super Chrome is an excellent blade, but the Super Stainless tugs a lot. I used the Shark SS for Shark week, because I didn't have any SC blades left. The week wasn't very good, but I didn't want to be negative in a thread devoted to celebrating the Shark.

I was using the chrome, but was sent some SS. It's a nice blade (chrome) but used once. Will try again tomorrow.

Interesting. I can't really say I have a preference between the SS and SC. I've used and liked at least one hundred SC and several hundred SS.

Fragrance and blades, YMMV.

Yes, I've heard other people say this. My experience is based only on two packs of the SC and one pack of the SS. Maybe I got a bad batch? It's just one of those mysteries to me.

I've only tried the Shark SS - I find it serviceable but not as sharp as I would like. I will need to try the Shark SC - I tend to like chrome and plat blades more than SS.

In my Futur I find the Derby a serviceable blade - pretty safe but not as sharp or smooth as a Med Prep which is my benchmark in the Futur.

I was seriously put off by my latest 100 pack of Shark blades. They used to be pretty good, but the these were like meat grinders... Today, however, I tried a fresh blade from a different dispenser in the same 100 pack. Not bad at all... Shark has redeemed itself in my blade list.

Not as good as Astra SP's. Not as smooth as Derby's. But not bad..... I'll keep them, and hope that Shark QC is good enough that only a few blades are meat grinders.
