A shameless plug for Scrubbing Bubbles

I was almost embarrassed to have paid actual money for this Aristocrat. I thought surely it would be a wreck under all that grime. After some research here, I pulled out a can of Scrubbing Bubbles and went to town. Here are the results!

How about that! As you can see, I missed a few spots and need to will do it again, but I was still shocked. On top of that, it gave me my best shave ever!

There is some minor plate wear on the sides of the doors and discoloration on the TTO knob, but that's literally it. It's in great shape otherwise. SO relieved not to have thrown that money away! Thanks, as always, for being a great resource B&B.

Very nice! I'm a big fan of these razors.

By the way, the discoloration is most likely the lacquer coating, which is there to protect the gold plating.
For some reason, the knob is a common place for this to happen.

Are you serious? That's the same razor? I have (roughly) the same aristocrat coming in the mail, and I guarantee I paid a lot more than you. Nice job!!!

Great job you did with the razor. Didn't think it would clean up so beautifully when I looked at the first photo, I'm amazed at how clean it looks after.

Killer job. We don't have scrubbing bubbles here but I guess other bathroom cleaners would do. What did you actually do ie: how long did you soak for or did you just hit it with a toothbrush?

You did that razor justice by resurrecting it and all it took was Scubbing Bubbles. I would like to see a modern DE razor (stainless excluded) after 60+ years be resurrected with Scrubbing Bubbles alone. On the other hand, I doubt the modern pot metal razors have the staying power of a vintage DE. Good job in saving that one from the land fill.

From scrubbing bubbles website, I found out that the local version is "Duck" or "Mr. Muscle". NZ may have one of these...
I have one in my bathroom:

PS: the cleaner bites :cursing:. Wear gloves

Really nice job with that. It's amazing that all that gunk over all the years doesn't eat through the thin layer of lacquer and right into the gold finish. Amazing quality on those razors, and a fine job you did cleaning it up. Now every time you shave with it you can have the pride of bringing it back to life and think about who shaved with it before you and what they may have been thinking about while using the same razor.

Thanks guys!

Per some instructions here, I sprayed it, waited till the foam "melted" away, sprayed a second time and waited again, then went to work with the toothbrush.
