not sure why it loaded sideways....but after reading some posts on Alum Blocks and not being able to find any at the 3 stores i visited today i went with the Crystal. hopefully this will work till i can find a real Alum block to try. and of course while i was at it had to pick up some old school Pinaud Clubman. never tried this before but i'm looking forward to a crisp burn!!! likely wont use it everyday, just had to add it to my small but growing collection.

I got myself a deodorant crystal that also has aloe mixed into it. Absolutely perfect for an alum block. Clubman is great as well!

Those crystals are just like the RazoRock crystal, or very close, for a lot less money (or a lot more crystal for your money). Good astringent, crappy deodorant imo.

Bought me some Clubman for the first time last week. I like the little warning on the seal around the cap. I can't remember what it says but it gave me a chuckle. I have yet to use it after a shave though. Hmm.... maybe tomorrow. It's Tabactober and some Pinaud Clubman would go pretty okay with Tabac I think.

The crystal is a real alum block, no need to buy another, unless you find that one a bit more "stingy" than the other types. I've found the crystal to work for a deodorant, but for shorter periods of time, and only if I'm not doing any sweating type work (like sitting in an office all day, no issue... splitting wood with an axe? I think wet dogs would come out smelling better at that point).

I would actually not recommend using that as an alum block. I saw it at my local food co-op and also was interested, until I saw that it contained ammonium alum, as opposed to potassium alum. Ammonium alum is known to be much harsher on your skin then potassium alum, and has been known to cause irritation for some people that I have seen on the board. If it works for you though, use it, but like you said, you can look forward to upgrading to something that will go a little easier on your face. Also clubman is GREAT. It's pretty cheap, smells awesome, and does a good job of disinfecting and closing the pores on your face. Good luck with the new scores!

i think i'll give it a try since i own it now. so lets say im done shaving....i rinse my face, rub the alum around, then apply the aftershave?? you dont think the crystal and the clubman will...idk..not mix well??

The crystal is completely odorless, so there's nothing to worry about in "mixing" them.

If you find the crystal is leaving too much residue, or if you just plain want to wash it off, go ahead and do so after letting it do it's thing for a minute or two. It's a great time to rinse out your brush and bowl if you used one. After that you splash with cold water and apply witch hazel or A/S.
