"Shot in the groin," is a deeply, deeply concerning phrase ...
Followed by thoughts of specificity ...
"Hey, you hit low!"
"No, I didn't."

Lol'd. We were sitting in the car at Sonic having a burger afterwards and I said those exact words to her!
I grew up in the 80s. I thought I hated Carson, just tolerated him because Letterman came on after him. It wasn’t Carson retired and Leno robbed Dave of his rightful place that I realized that I missed Johnny.Lol’d. I miss Ole Johnny.

Carson was an institution. The early 70s Tonight Show era was the best for me, though. Severinson was still in his prime. And because he would be followed by Tom Snyder, who had great guests too. Both were excellent interviewers. Plenty of coffee was often needed the next morning.
I was in the Steve Allen/Jack Parr generation.
Yes. But before my time!Jack Parr was just before Carson?

Same. I actually prefer his reruns to what passes for late night TV, lol.+1 I think, Carson had already been the host for a good minute before I even realized there was a tonight show.
I loved NBC Letterman (his best era), and realized too late that I liked Johnny, too.Carson was an institution. The early 70s Tonight Show era was the best for me, though. Not to be confused with Fred Allen. And the guy who started it all: Steve Allen.
EXCELLENT post. Tom Snyder and his cigarettes were as kool as it got to me. He had some great interviews. Studs Terkel was one, made me buy some of his books back in the day. A favorite for me was the Dick Cabot show.
