What's new

A classy Brit

Perhaps the Big Fellow or FatBoy would earn the term of "classy Yank", but the rhodium-plated British Aristocrats have always turned my head and impressed me with their class and beauty. Thus the appellation: "classy Brit."

I had never had this specific model of the #16 Aristocrat before -- and this particular razor seems to have never been used. It is a great shaver and one that I would think Gillette could use as a prototype if they are seriously thinking about getting back into the DE razor business.

This beaut from 1948 has held up incredibly well and it's earned a righteous spot in my collection.

It is a truly beautiful razor and such a good shaver. Glad to know another esteemed member of this establishment has one of these rare and classic razor sets. Have you used it? Comments?

Thanks for posting your photo!

Have 3 of them, 2 cased one not ( all local finds ) :001_smile

The uncased is my everyday shave, normally with a Red IP or Astra SP.

I've tried other razors but whether it's psychological because of it's shiney heft I just keep going back to it.
:thumbup1:

Oh and BTW the first #16 was my third find....really should have just stopped there and not got RAD.....yeah right

Very attractive set Ian. I had several of these #16s in the past, just never got one in this new style case. Glad to know that other British Aristocrat aficionados also own this beautiful model.

Looks mint or near mint (10 blades in the holder), but I just dare not use it even though I am so tempted at times.

I keep thinking I should sell to a collector. I guess I prefer to have something I can use.

Definitely on my now short wish list. I keep on looking but in all the wrong places.

Jake and Ian, they are two beautiful specimens of fine shaving instruments.

Herbnerd, we'd love to see photos of your minty #16. And perhaps Mike would be interested in helping you commercially convert it into a shaving tool. But post some photos when you have a chance.

Actually, I have no idea. I'm not sure of the difference between the 15 and 16.

It most certainly is a #15 which is the open comb. The #16 is the closed comb - check our Mr-Razor's pics on the links. I'm fortunate to have both now but don't have pics to post.

Your #15 is certainly a beauty!

That is a great razor set but the open comb head means it's a #15 model. Since we now have the 15 & 16 both illustrated on this thread, it's certainly possible to see the differences between them right here!

Thanks for posting the photo of your cased razor.

I love it, but just dare not use it. It looks too mint.[/QUOTE]

That's a beautiful #15 you have there.

If you do decide to use it you won't regret it. I bought a near mint #15 from Jake a little while back and it became my number one razor very quickly. Only the mint #16 that I also bought from Jake comes close.
