been busy

but in quick
this surprised me comparing these two
my memory said the Wilkinson was better but doing side by side I did like the Blue pack Astra better :) but going to give it a few more shaves !

also the cost of the Astra are very reasonable which is a nice bonus I reckon

so Astra Stainless are going to get some more testing and moving forward !

Notes to today’s shave:

The shave was absolutely wonderful. Superglide so much so I wondered if it was shaving at all. But three passes later I am smooth and clean.

Enjoy your shave today!

Good Day Gents
We are on a getaway in Branson MO. A Greek restaurant and show scheduled today.
An early shave with two passes.
I will use the same gear for the next couple days.

Please take care of yourself and each other.

Shave #83.
Second use of the WR2 this week. Had better success with the MdC today using my best synthetic. Previous use the lather was airy and dissipating and not dense.

@Ckmaui I think I need to pay a little more attention to razor/blade pairing. Perhaps start keeping notes. What's your most important criteria for a "best" blade?

Fatip Friday

Razor: Fatip Piccolo
Blade: Big Ben (8)
Brush: RR Moka-soft beehive
Soap: ZM Explorer

Tonight I decided to use another razor that doesn't get used nearly as much as it should, the Fatip Piccolo. I know that when you first see it the Piccolo looks like it came out of a Christmas cracker, but it is a great shaver. The lather was provided by ZM Explorer and the Moka-soft, a winning combination for me. I have always enjoyed the lather from this soap. The 8th use of the Big Ben blade/Piccolo was better than expected and I ended up with a BBS

Friday 24th March, shave #83

Preshave: Hot washcloth
Soap: Mitchell's Wool Fat
Brush: Yaqi 24mm synthetic cashmere
Razor: GC.84 SB, Al Handle, Astra SP #3
Bowl: Turkish copper
Post-shave: Nivea 2-in-1 Aftershave

Since there was plenty of time, had a leisurely near-BBS.

my memory said the Wilkinson was better but doing side by side I did like the Blue pack Astra better :) but going to give it a few more shaves !

Astra SP (greens) are smooth, the SS (blues) a lot less so for me.

So, I'm ack home, finaly. My last shave on board was on 22 march (shave 81/81)
I packed all gear and left the ship.
Due to travel inconvinience, fog, delayed flights and so on, my plan to arive home on 23rd of march, fall apart.
I got home yesterday on 24th and shaved with new gear.

A short weekend trip

  • Blackland Blackbird with Perma-Sharp blade
  • Tabac lathered with Muhle STF travel brush
  • Finished with SV Desert Vetiver
A great travel kit. The SS Blackbird feels like a sledgehammer after using the Titanium Bird, but it was easy to adapt and the shave was superb.

Efficiency (scoring details here)Quality
8/10 (~20 minutes)9/10 (Some disappeared weepers)
EffectivenessComfort
6.5/10 (DFS-)
6.5/10 (Harsher)

Notes to today’s shave:

The combination of the Flatboy and the G365 is usually a comfortable and effective one, but this morning I felt more harshness from the blade. Some light weepers were evidence to that feeling. So I backed down on the number of passes and went only very light touch ATG on my neck. The aftershave sting burn told me this was clearly an extremely close shave. Very nice and effective end result.

Full details to today's shave can be found here.

Enjoy your shave!
