2nd home roast.

According to BEAN temp, you're right. Unfortunately, in most home roasting machines, the measured temp is rarely as accurate as we'd like to think. His 460F may really be quite a bit lower.

What's important is that you can correlate the temperature reading with the cup profile with your own setup. It won't translate well, but if you're just roasting at home, it shouldn't need to.

hey all - I DID calibrate my thermometer for my popcorn popper - but it does read a bit on the high side.... for my stir-crazy / convection oven set-up, I use a thermocouple and a PID off an old espresso set-up...I listten for first crack (shoudl be around 400 to 405) note the temp on the PID - always reads super low for some reason...and add 60 degrees to that...

most of my roasts are not actually that dark - definitely a light vienna.... nowhere near a char-bucks type of roast....
