2 ways to shaved with a Gem?

I receive to mint condition Gem micromatic for Xmas. One is open comb and the other isn't.

The pamphlet that came with it says to put the razor flat against your face. This obviously didn't work so i tilted until I felt it cutting which may have been around 20 degrees. I also tilted it more so the blade is maybe 60 degrees and the handle is almost perpendicular to my face but not quite. Using it this was seems to be more forgiving and produces a louder cutting sound.

Anyone experience this?

Which is the best was to use it?

Both ways seem to provide a close shave but the first way is closer but less comfortable.

I use my GEM razors just off the skin. Most guys will agree that the flat against the face thing doesn't work. In fact, Dave Irving once hinted that he found some some inside information implying that the flat against the face campaign was an idea by GEM to boost blade sales.
Anyway, use whatever angle works best for you. GEMs seem to be a prime example of YMMV.
