I was lucky and got a grated puck to use. Is it more like a hard soap in the solid puck or softer

When new, the puck is hard, almost as hard as a triple-milled. If you use it in the ceramic dish, it will absorb water over time, and will swell to fit the dish snugly. This extra absorbed water will make the soap a little bit softer (and easier to load), but it will still be harder than the cream soaps like Proraso.

I'm still trying to get mine to work. I haven't lost all hope yet but I'm well on my way.

That's a shame. There appears to be a wide range of performance reported by the members of this forum. This stuff explodes for me, and I couldn't make a substandard lather with it if I tried.

Had fun face lathering this morning, just kept adding water to a light, airy lather and then it blew up into great lather as soon as it hit the right ratio.

Can't get a good lather from the fat? Pick that bad boy up and rub it all over your wet face like a giant shave stick.

Shake your brush and go to town on it, adding water a few times and BAM! Great lather.

It's foolproof and takes all of the loading guesswork out of the equation.

I'm on a huge MWF kick at the moment. I love it.

I've been travelling a lot and using shave sticks (Arko and the Australian Palmolive), they're not bad but they can't compare.

I tried that method this morning and the lather went from too dry to way too wet/airy with one small dip of the brush. I'm not sure what the issue is but I'm done messing with it.
