1912 Pocket

Hi guys - I just tried a 1912 Pocket I purchased from Maher on B&B, and I will have to say I am rather surprised. I have never used an open comb so it was a rather strange feeling - am I the only one? The first time I tried it I used a Derby blade and nicked myself, then today I used the Feather and had no problems, 2 passes and a 3rd as a touch up around the jawline and throat. I did not want to push it..... no nicks, cuts, or weepers. All in all I think this could be a nice little razor to use from time to time. Plus, it was rather fun - that's not the word......interesting....no......I don't quite know how to put it....using a razor that is almost 100 years old.

I probably will not use this razor a lot, but at the same time it's a very odd feeling using something that old and finding that it still does a rather nice job.

Luv my PE, I also like the idea I'm shaving with a razor that is 100 years old, I often wonder what events and people have surrounded the razor over the many years. I have other razors I use more frequently but the intricate patterns of the various PE designs are really without equal.

Thats one of the reasons I enjoy this so much. Connecting in some small way to something larger than you all through an old razor. I cant wait till I pick up a razor thats 100yo+ & shaves nicely. If that razor could talk, imagine the stories it could weave.

BTW, I am adding a 1912 Pocket to my wish list...

Nice razor, and thanks for sharing your experience. Shaving with a 100 year old razor is a little surreal. It's hard to believe your performing this task with such a cool piece of history.

It is a bit strange. One thing is - we hope that the person or persons who have used it were upstanding citizens ...... but ...... knowing human nature they could have equally been a real dredge of society. I will just hope that the person or persons who did use it before me had a bit of class, because the razor does look cool and it's hard to imagine that someone would use something that is this nice today (and stayed nice) and must have been a good looking piece of kit even back then.

If only they could tell the tales of the previous owners . . . . . . . .

That's one fine razor. I have always enjoyed my PE's when I pull them out.

The idea of of a 100 Y.O. razor just takes the shaves over the top IMO.

This is true. It may sound corny, but I was actually getting goosebumps the first time I shaved with my 1905 Double Ring.

Imagine how I felt when I shaved with a "PAT APL'D FOR" 1904.

The Pocket and the Bulldog are my two favorite shavers. I use mine all the time, never get tired of it. Can you tell what year it was made by the serial number?

Handsome razor. I do enjoy the way the OLD heads work. I'm especially you are enjoying it. Had it been silver, it would have been mine :thumbup1:

Guido,

That razor is freaky obscene. :tongue_sm

Len

Better than obscene. And our friend Lucky is the owner now. It is the single most incredible razor I have ever seen. It is one of only 25,242 made with a serial number and the "PAT APL'D FOR" stamp. I literally spent hours just looking at it in all detail. And yes, that one single very careful shave just to say I did.

Lucky, have you tried it out yet?
