Opus X Reserve Robusto

Item Description

The Arturo Fuente Opus X is unlike any cigar you will ever have. My first taste of this glorious creation was on my honeymoon my new bride had given it to me as a gift. She had been in Vegas and stopped by the Fuente store. Upon leaving the store she had this cigar and a wonderful knowledge of the tradition, history, and love that was put into this gift of heaven. The look: mine was a robusto and it looked like a supermodel in a magazine. Perfect curves, wonderful wrapper, and had this majestic fregrance even before lighting it. The smoke: It was lit with pure cedar. The first section was strong and full bodied, the tobacco being completely Dominican had to show me who was boss and slow me down for full enjoyment. The second section I noticed a sweet mellowness that was almost aromatic while still so smooth. The last section had me wondering how I would explain selling my car to buy a box. The cigar ended better than any other cigar; including the Cuban varieties. It left such a wonderful taste in my mouth. The flavors were consistent throughout the entire cigar and were not overwhelmed by smoke in the end. It burned perfectly round with a very long ash. The draw was majical and effortless.

One word of caution it is about $30 a stick. If you get the chance to visit the Fuente store the experience is that much better.

I have enjoyed this cigar a few times. I have had scotch, coffee (dark Sumatra French press), and a robust Zinfandel, but I seem to stop drinking while I smoke his cigar as if the angles that made it pushed me to enjoy it by itself.

Pros: Rich flavor, copious smoke
Cons: goes out every damn time
I've smoked a few of these. The first time was at the Fuente store in Vegas. I was blown away -- a great smoke-- wonderful creamy smoke, rich mouth-filling flavor. It was like nothing else I'd ever had. I loved it. And then it went out about 1/2 way through. Nothing would make it re-light. re-cut, tried to "purge", ran a straightened paper clip into it... nothing. The nice people at the Fuente store gave me a new one to take with me for my trouble.
Strangely, the freebie they gave me smoked to about 3/4 and then clogged. I purchased one a year later at my local B&M store and had the same issue. Very weird.
Now, maybe it's me -- but I've never had the problem with another cigar. And I have talked to other smokers who have had similar problems.
So, while I will readily give this cigar a good review for it's flavor and richness, it is with the caveat that the quality of construction may not match the reputation and price of the product.

That said, it is probably worth the splurge if you've never had one. They ARE a great tasting cigar. And you can find them for far less than $30+ that the Fuente store sells them for. My local B&M usually has them for $15-20.
