Brush Acquisition Disorder: What is wrong with us?

Hard to narrow it down, but for Badger I love my Simpson Ch2 Silvertip and Manchurian M7. Also the Shavemac B&B Beagle, Kent BK8 Silvertip and Thater 4125 are in the main rotation.

Synth favourites are the M7, Ch2 and the Semogue Pharos synth is suprisingly good.

My favourite Boar is the Semogue 1800.

Overall I am a big Simpson fan, I guess. I actually do use all of my brushes though. They may not get the same amount of love, but even my lowly $7.99 Rockwell brushes get use.

Thank you for your reply. I enjoy reading others' thoughts on their brushes. I surmised you were a Simpson fan based on the number of Simpson brushes in your den. The variety available to you is quite nice & gives you many choices of face-feel to choose from each day. I too enjoy variety. Badger, boar, & synthetics are all in my den. I've yet to try a horsehair brush but am confident it will be added at some point. I have lately been enjoying a variety of boar brushes. If you're looking at expanding your boar presence in your den, I would recommend the Omega Premium Jade or Zenith olive wood unbleached boar for your consideration.

If I had my time again those two, a small Zenith boar, and a Wee Scot would be the only brushes I’d buy.

Hi all. You know what I’m talking about, why do we spend bank on brushes? I just sold two and bought five. I have way more brushes than razors. And I like razors, but we’re talking 3:1! Help!

Feeling like I got taken on the Art of Shaving Badger that then lost a chunk of hair from the center, I started looking for vintage brushes to reknot. Then, I kept finding vintage brushes with intact and very serviceable knots in the smaller diameters and couldn't bring myself to not use them as is. (Other than the AoS and WCS synthetic) I haven't paid more than $15 for any of them and less than $10 for most. I have a mix of new and vintage badger/boar/horse/synthetic and in order of use:
- Vintage ER Lucite Badger/Boar (original knot)
- Vintage Surrey Boar (original knot)
- Vintage ER T100 (reknotted w/tuxedo synthetic)
- Vintage ER Lucite nylon knot (original knot)

I purchased the Surrey Boar last Sunday for $5.00, and while the handle has some hairline cracks, the knot is by far the softest boar I have and is quickly becoming a favorite. I try to keep inventory down, so I tossed out the Van Der Hagen starter Boar (always shed and never broke in). Tossing the VDH boar, came right after my wife told me she accidently knocked "the gold razor" and it fell into the sink. The "gold" one was the New Improved I was going to replate, but won't be now because the top cap and end tooth are all bent up; so tossing the brush was a cheap, cathartic way of venting some frustration.

I'm at 12 as well, and fighting to hold the line on brushes as I doubt folks will buy vintage brushes as readily as they will razors on BST

I just recently made a decision in reference to brushes...I prefer shorter loft brushes with smaller, tops 24mm, knots. That pretty much eliminated half the brushes I own. I consider these types of decisions...becoming mature in the hobby. LOL!
