What's new

Incoming--Shavemac 44140

A couple of weeks ago I managed to get my mitts on the SR3118. I was amazed at the difference in this little brush compared to my C&EBBB and Simpson B5. It is stiff enough yet soft and the lather looks very different on it. Plus the badger fur looks nice close up. All in all I am very pleased with the purchase.

So I got thinking “I wonder what a more bigglier one will be like?” I decided to purchase a larger one. I was also interested in a Shavemac so I started looking about and also posted on the forum to see if anyone was offloading anything suitable. I got an offer of a Shavemac and considered it until this morning when I decided to go new.

I clicked on over to the QED website. Despite having just used it I got pretty fed up trying to find the info on the other models. It really should be right there on the site. I wanted to see if they had anything in black. I went to Google and searched for Shavemac. Logged on to the German site and started looking at the 23mm brushes. They are all very nice but my eye kept getting drawn to the black and nickel. So, I bought it, three day shipping. 25mm of lovelinesshttp://www.shavemac.com/index.php?lang=en&area=men&sel=2&cat=5&product=44140&prod_id=4
Anyone have this exact brush and would like to add any input. I will be posting suitable brush porn later in the week once the Lufthansa plane has been to my house.

I have this brush and its simply fantastic. I bought it off a member here on B&B and it blows my Vulfix #41 out of the water. A monster for soaps and brilliant for creams too. Nice and dense and stiff, unlike the mammoth mop that is the Vulfix. Highly recommended piece of kit that has, and continues to serve me well

Cheers,

would you happen to have any pics to share, particularly with it next to am 18mm or 20mm brush?

I've just snapped you a few:

What size is the other brush in the pictures? Checked Shavemac today for shipping info but nothing :-( Did see that the brush jumped up $13 since yesterday though :)

That other brush is a monster Vulfix #41, marketed at a 30mm knot but in reality is closer to 26. Its a complete mop and it has a stupidly large bloom but is good for lathering a shave stick on the face and getting mountains of lather from creams in the bowl.

Cheers,

yea I also knoticed that the prices of shavemac has jumped alittle. I got lucky because I just ordered a new silvertip large from them.

This is pretty sad for me. I had posted another subject on here and tried to keep the manufacturer out of the posting as they have a good reputation. But I am so disappointed I wanted to share...

I received the brush last Thursday. I immediately noticed there was a lot of glue around the bottom of the knot. About 5mm high around almost 360 degrees. Also some white glue residue. Doesn't look good on black. After a lot of thought and several emails I have decided to return it for a new one. The brush is nice and seems pretty stiff but the reply I got from Shavemac was that this was a flaw and I can return it if I am unhappy.

No doubt this is good customer service but the "flaw" is so big and obvious it makes me wonder how on earth anyone put this is a box and sent it half way around the world in the first place! The end result will be that I will have paid at least $150 for a brush with 2-3 days mailing service on the 18th of January and probably won't be able to use it by the the beginning of March.

I tried to keep my temper over this and I know it will be sorted out, but still. It's one thing for a retail store to do this with a quick exchange but we are talking 1000s of miles and someone decided it was a good idea to put this in a box and send it on it's way, glue and all. Disgraceful. Black lines are to mark glue height.

While I probably would not be happy with the line either, these brushes are hand made and there has to be some way to maintain some sort of consistency in the making of the knots.

Yeah - you never hear about Shavemacs/SR's shedding. I guess the downside is that maybe they sometimes put too much glue in the brush and over-do it.

I received the same brush, with a 23mm knot, as the OP today.

It took less than a week to arrive. The handle is beautiful and the silvertip badger feels wonderful on the skin.

My previous two brushes were a ~$30 pure badger from Omega and a super badger from Trumper (who makes their brushes?).

IME, the Trumper is a bit floppy and actually works best for face lathering over bowl lathering. It's nice for a quicker, in-shower shave when pressed for time.

I suspect the Shavemac will be an excellent bowl/mug latherer.

I am considering a shavemaster as well but I don't really care for the handles.
