Well last night was a milestone for me I took my Klas Tornblom razor that I one absolutely nothing about that I got on ebay for $15. Honed it with lapping film following the instructions that I have read here. Then stropped it on crox then leather. It kinda passed the HHT it definitely failing near the shoulder but I decided to try it anyways.
So I lathered up and gave it a go, it was hard to see my face in the mirror because the razor and my hand was covering my face. I think that doing my cheeks will be easier to do my feel than sight. First pass was WTG and holy crap there was a lot of audible feedback. No nicks or cuts on the first pass but honestly I dont think that most here would have considered my razor shave ready.
Second pass was XTG and it also went well no nicks or cuts. Also I noticed that after I finished I felt my face and it seemed a much closer shave than I got with my DE on the second pass. Third pass wasn't great couldn't get a BBS and was barely a DFS also had a slight nick but nothing crazy.
Being this was my first shave with a straight and also being one that I honed myself I think it went very well. The Alum definitely stung a bit more than usual and my face felt slightly inflamed but not to bad. I think I will re-hone the razor again tonight and hopefully get this razor much sharper. But I am sold on straight shaving and I cant wait to see what a real shave ready razor feels like when I get my other razor back from Obiwan.
